As far as my experiences go, Micro Set/Sol can be used on any decal - no matter what the size
It is always worth testing the decal sheet first - apply a bit of the black edging of the sheet to a test area to make sure the Set/Sol don't react with them - there are numerous stories of decals dissolving when used with the solutions. All the Airfix decals I've used in the past have been fine, I think it is really only a concern with certain eastern european and chinese kits where they are produced quite crudely.
If you don't know, Microset goes onto the surface you are to put the decal on, then when it is in place, Microsol is used to conform the decal to the surface. This does cause the decal to wrinkle up but over time it will sort itself out again and lie flat _________________ Owen

Many thanks Owen. When you say use the black edging, do you apply the microsol on to it on the sheet and see what happens? _________________ Cheers

Find a smooth surface (like an old CD or something similar) and just apply the decal in the same way you would if you were putting it onto a model If the decal settles with no problems, you're in business! _________________ Owen

As promised the pics of my progress so far
Firstly we have The kit after days of sanding and filling. I have lost some of the surface detail
I then sprayed the yellow nose and tail in the markings of JG53 of Josef Priller. Once masked I sprayed the underside and the fuselage in Hu65 Light Aircraft Blue. this needed two coats to cover the filler and primer.
I then sprayed the brown on the wings. I used Hu26 Khaki. Then masked that using tape and sprayed the green using Hu30
It has now had two coats of Klear. I went to put the decals on and I have come to the conclusion that I HATE AIRFIX DECALS AND IT IS THE LAST TIME I AM USING THEM!. When I put them in they sort of sizzled and craked into several peices and sveral smaller ones when I put them on the model. I could not put the tiny writing ones on the model which is a shame, but on my ceiling I wouldn't see them anyway
Once they dry over night I will apply a coat of microsol and then a couple of coats of klear or matt coat
More pictures later _________________ Cheers

I wondered because I put Microsol onto the decal immediately its in position whereas you were talking about letting it dry before applying it _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Thanks Owen and Feanor
Its the Aztek A470. (dont all yell at me at once )
I had one of those cheap no name brands from ebay and when that broke I was looking for a new one and after seeing the excellent work done by Brett Green and by Zero (Dave) on this site it decided it for me. So far it has been excellent _________________ Cheers

Ayup Daniel..
No worries. whatever you feel comfy with to spray is good. if you're comfy with a particular tool, you'll do better work. I am a Badger 200 fan... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

the splinter pattern seems very sharp-
sorry the decals went and dissolved on you-a real pity
keep going
is there any chance of using after market decals or getting in touch with Airfix? |

Thanks Paul.
The decals dont look too bad as I have touched them up with paint so hopefully I wont need to get aftermarket ones, but I will in the future. I dont really see the point with getting replacements from airfix and they will probably be the same brown paper ones. _________________ Cheers

I declare this model finished
I have really enjoyed this build and has given me the chance to try out some new techniques. If I did it again I would take more time and make all the removable parts work. Also I managed to snap the guns off and loose the aerial mast which I will scratch at some later stage. Also I wouldn't use the kit decals as they were truely awful
Anyway enough of the rambling here it is:
One taken at night
The others taken in daylight
I would value your opinions _________________ Cheers
