I am pretty sure that everybody is familar with this kit so i will go straight in to what i am going to do.
To make this kit look like a tower of a descript, (13726/41) then i opted to cut off the bottom section, beneath the balcony. This i believe will give it the appearance of most towers from the off. I have cut directly in-line with the top section of the side elevation.
Second picture shows that i intend just to have a first floor in place as this presents the biggest windows in which to view inside. Back walll has a door and a hatch to the 'Signals ' room behind main room.
I also intend to make ammendments to the roof, of more late ......

Done a little more today.
Took the windows off the spruce and made a point of cleaning a small amount of flash from the 'inside' of the windows so that they will take the glazing flush to the window itself. Rubbed down the awful render on the R.H. side (part16) to minimise its appearance.
You will note as well that i have taken out the smaller window frame from the top two windows to liken their appearance of the bottom ones. I also filed around the window frame so as to improve the appearance of the frames overall. ( I do not know of any tower that had wood frames so it a case of doing the best of what there is).
Put the first floor in just to see how it fits and it seems ok; i shall not be over doing the interior on this particular build,. .. ..
You will also be aware that i have scrapped off the base area for the 'penthouse' on the roof area as seen in the top pictue:- this was not introduced till early '43 so as this building depicts a 1941 build then its gone !!

I tend to first paint so as to have the camouflage on the windows before adding the glazing which will be next. Structure is not yet glued together so its just free standing. i have drawn a plan of the extn and this will be cut out tomorrow along with the purchase of some steps for excess to the the extention roof, see previous sketch.

Are you modelling a tower from a particular location or just a generic type The kit certainly lends itself to some serious hacking _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I am trying to re-build it based on a number of locations.
Primarily the tower based at Bardney in Lincolnshire as this had the same arranged of windows at the front; ie. two large and two small at the bottom.
Extension i am going to base on Tibenham because that did not have the railing balcony as original tower so it can be built a little easier.
I have been away for a number of days so now i'm back i will be progressing further on
I was unable to obtain the extra steps i needed for the extension but this will be overcome even if i have to scratch build 'em. |

I fitted the glazing to all the windows in the tower this afternoon but i purposely left out the 'frame' above the door and just glazed it to improve its aoppearance. Measured, cut and built the front extension and stuck on the 'brick' piers found on this type of build. Left to dry and paint tomorrow. Dont know wether to camouflage the extension or leave it plain green indicating that it was built at a later date. Your feedback welcome on this
I am fortunate that i had half a kit from anothere Control tower so i was able to rob the window frames from it. The blank wall is where the stairway to the first floor will be. It will have a flat roof as seen on the tower at Tibenham.
Definately more tomorrow ........

I think plain green is best, it might be difficult to get camouflage right on buildings, even if you can find a good reference to copy from. _________________ Modelling - Buy twenty, research ten, build one (eventually).

Working on the proven military maxim of "if it moves; salute it, if it doesn't move; paint it" I'd camo the lot!
For what it's worth, all the best

I have managed to do a bit more and have intially painted the extn. a green but may well go with the complete camo. I have in the past cut plasti-card for a given shape only to discover its been tha wrong size so now i tend to cut a template as such and then check it. Photo shows the cardboard cut for the flat roof. (It is still free standing at the point). When i cut this i thought that the 'platform' from the ground to the first was to long so i've shortened it. I also tend to place a scrap piece of plasticard behind doorways to add that little more strength Since the photo I have also filled in the gap of the front of the tower with filler and rubbed it down. ONE POINT i need to make; if your going to do this mod then you need to REDUCE the height of the bottom section on the original front of the tower by 2MM
