Feanor, you are a genius! I sanded the scratches then took a cotton bud and rubbed the hazing and scratched area with toothpaste. The result was a amazing, and didn't actually take that long. I have the canopy drying after a coat of Klear has been added.
PS, I hope your dad is happy now that his "spit is (c)leared" _________________ Airfix Club member |

Result ! I'm not a genius, it's just something i was showed by someone else. We just Help each other when we can, is all...
Dad's happy yes. He was VERY eager to put the second coat of Klear on. He couldn't believe what a difference it made. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

I've started picking out the framing on the canopy. I've been painting the first coat in cockpit green (inside and outside). I continue to stick little bits of pipe into the gun openings - that's going well, limited time available these days to really concentrate on it. _________________ Airfix Club member |

Good progress today.
All construction is now complete with exhaust stacks fitted, cockpit glued on as well as aerial and pilot tube. Cockpit framing is painted on interior. All gun openings are modified with the plastic tubing.
A first coat of Halford's primer has been painted on the underside.
Feels like I'm on the home straight.

Looking good!
When I was doing my Hurricane it seemed to take forever, and then it all came together in a rush. You are nearly there!
Best

Cheers Colin,
I have developed a bit of a stash while building the Spit'. I'm looking forward to taking some of my newly developed skills to other projects, this large scale model (with some challenges) has taught me a lot. It's only the fourth model I've assembled since coming back to model-making after a break of over twenty years. _________________ Airfix Club member |

Don't mention the 'S' word...
I didn't know what a stash was until I joined ATF less than a year ago, now I have 60+ kits in various cupboards. I will build them all one day, and I know I don't really need three Harriers and four Spitfires, and the extra Hurricane, and...

Masking takes forever! Of course the Spitfire production was held up badly by having a patio laid and having a full time job.
Masking is all done at last, and undercoat is on all surfaces. Now I have to pluck up the courage to try spraying painting enamels for the first time. I have to admit I'm a bit worrying about messing it up. _________________ Airfix Club member |

I've lost patience waiting on the sub-zero temperatures to go away. It's too cold for my airbrush and I just can't spray paint in the kitchen . My Spitfire has a lovely smooth undercoat ready for the final paint job.
I bought a couple of Humbrol rattle cans today to paint the camoflage green and brown, hoping that the temperature will rise by the time I need to spray the underside. Rattle cans seem to perform quite well if they are brought straight from the house before being used in the shed.
It's been a long, cold winter. _________________ Airfix Club member |

Here's how it looks now. I'll spray with the green rattle can some other time in the weekend.

Getting ready for the coat of green. Getting the masking done takes a long time on this scale. Nearly there. Masking is done with a combination of blu-tack, cut up cereal bag, foil and masking tape.

Ayup Mac T...
Your Spit's looking good mate. and your masking looks top-notch too. Nice use of stuff to hand instead of expensive Tamiya tape ! You look to have a nice even coat of paint too.
Well done. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Cheers feanor, the weather has been a real problem for my first attempt at spraying. The shed was never warmer than 10degrees and often colder. Spraying in the kitchen wouldn't have been smart for marital harmony. I eventually found that pre-warmed humbrol rattle cans worked quite well with thin coats even in cold weather. I used up nearly a whole can with the brown though so the cans could be an expensive way to spray.
I love how the old cereal bag worked out: it's flexible, strong, see-through, and it cuts easily. I think I'll use it again.
Thanks for the kind comments. _________________ Airfix Club member |

Taking the masking off was a nervous experience. There were a couple of small spots where a little jet of H30 green paint penetrated to places I didn't want it - a little dry brushing with H29 brown over the top sorted those. Overall I'm pleased with how the paint looks, and the framing on the glazing. Unfortunately something strange happened to the domed transparency while it was under all the masking tape. There must have been some sort of chemical on the edge of the tape which left hazed marks, and some nasty rough lines. I'm back to applying feanor's transparency tips.
I'll mask the wing edges and fuselage tomorrow and spray the underside H90.

Looks good to me, well done!
One suggestion for next time, leave the propellor and boss assembly off when spraying, one less thing to mask.
Looking forward to the finished model.
Best
