I have this boxing

But I don't think I'll use that one, but this one

which is from the VJ-Day set
These are the decals from the set

for an overall Sea Blue Gloss, 800 Sqn FAA  Think
But I have a few more references

from Model Aircraft Monthly, August 2005 - a few options
and a quick sort through the Spare Decal File reveals...

I quite like the look of Hellcat PR Mk II, JV222 of No 888 Sqn, HMS Empress, circa February 1945, northern Sumatra and southern Malaya.
Converted for the photo reconnaissance role, JV222 was one of several 888 NAS Hellcats to be repainted in an overall 'PR Blue' scheme created by mixing roundel Blue and white. The original ETO markings have been modified into SEA blue and white style and fin markings also modified to suit

I've had to revise my plans
The PR Hellcat is the wrong variant and I don't possess the correct markings for the others in the article do it'll have to be OOB
The good news is that painting is underway

The pilot looks like he's wearing a flying helmet and thermal undies.

Like the Dauntless, this one has been racing along
I painted everything on the sprues

and then started putting things together

paint touch-ups as I go along

I'm glad I opted for folded wings, as I'm not impressed by their fit

decals applied, no Klear, straight on the gloss paint

the starboard horizontal tail didn't fit into it's slot    Rather than open the slot I opted to remove one of the tabs, which made it none too secure

the canopy frame is brush painted

and painted nose

Thats pretty rapid progress there Ratch, coming along well. What colour did you use for the dark blue?

Thanks for the info, it is a nice shade, better than the dark blue I used on one of my Hellcats.

Sorry to hijack your thread Ratch but would that colour be the same as Humbrol's discontinued Hu181 Sea Blue which is available as Xtracolour X121 Gloss sea blue?
