Ayup All...
HAHAHAHAHAHA !
Finally got that Darned Fuse together ! hahahaha !
Due to a problem with paint not sticking to the inner walls, I seemed unable to paint anything properly, so i painted the interior Hu67 ! (after Fairy power spraying it again for the THIRD time and cleaning it ALL off once and for all... )
I've got the lovely etched belts and stuff in, primed and painted the prop yellow to halfway down in prep for masking the tips, drybrushed the exhausts with the first coat of rust, (Hu113) and CLAMPED it together! good old Slaters MEK ! Progress at last!
Tomorrow i'll put some Mr Surfacer 1000 on the slightly visible seams, let it dry, and get the top Inner wing halves on. I plan to add some Plasticard wing ribs, as the hole under the wings is a nightmare, and the PE doesn't tally up with the inner surface or even fit... I NEED to get a shift on, both figurately, and actually, for my mental health, ( ) so i'm going for it !
Pics tomorrow... Hopefully. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Ayup Martin...
As promised...
As you can see, i've lost one of the Harnesses, god knows how, so i'll have to put in a Tamiya tape replacement. All that gap filling Mr Surfacer ? yup, it's pulled away from the seam, so i'll have to see what happens once i sand the excess off... and have to use something a little more Conventional ... Ho Hum..
Underside....
Overall shot in slight Blurryvision(TM) ...
'Beauty' shot... (Looks nice, don't it?') how misleading...

Very pleased to see you are making progress now. I think your long hours will pay off with 'things being as they should'. The hardest bits over and once you sand the fus then you are on the home straight.
With your pics if you moved the camera further away would they be less blurry ? Or is it camera shake
Keep going with wings and looking forward to painted model. _________________ Regards, Martin

Ayup Martin...
Yep, I guess its camera shake. the cam's on 3/4 Magnification... (3 out of 4X Mag.) I do have my Tripod down here with me and will use it next time, even though it takes extra time...
After i sanded down with my Flexifile (Wet) The seams didn't actually seem so bad. although i have put a smidge of filler along the underside of almost the whole length of the nose where it was SUNK all the way along a little deeper than i thought. I really should have used the 500 grade Mr Surfacer, but felt the seams weren't THAT bad on such a smaller model. wrong choice! But i learn...
The next pic will illustrate just how much under it had sunk almost the WHOLE length of the underside of the Fuse... But now it looks just SOO much better... and will be easier to get right. when the filler's cured and re-sanded it will be OK, and I have stuff to carry on with as well...
Topside where the Mr Surfacers filled in a dimple or two !
Ah, so. I shall carry on with Ancilliaries like the Bomb hangers. the PE supplied has the proper semi circular cradles instead of using the holes suppiled for the bombs, I shall make a sawcut as instructed and superglue them in. the PE also provides for replacing the Bomb fins but i haven't seen ANY pictures of a fully Bombed-up Firefly on deck with the wings up... ( too dangerous if you ask me !) so i won't go there either... the majority of the other fret is taken up with opening the hatches for Access to the cannon ammo boxes, but again, as there's NO detail in the wing to expose, these won't be used either... What were Airwaves thinking? _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

hi Stu
looking at the pics the cutting mat looks in focus and crisp so it might be the auto focus selecting the wrong object?
i have that problem- might be a case of adjusting the settings- haven't done mine yet but hth |

Ayup All..
Spent this afternoon Butchering the non-fitting PE Inserts to fit the wheel wells. Tomorrow I'll add extra Rod and strip, but it's impossible (for me at least) to box a whole 'round' well in, including gauging the width of the wing, when the lower half is almost in two bits.... for it to close. There's a guy on ARC who's done a stunning job of boxing his in, but for the life of me i don't understand what he did... and how. it seems he built a 'Box' around the area he wanted, detailed it, but it looks as if he made a round well too... Ohhhh ! Darn! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

This may be of use to you if you're doing a wing fold Stu. It's an official Fairey factory photo that was sold on ebay a while back. I got permission from the seller at the time, but have no record as it was from before my old computer went south. Let me know if i'm breaking any

Ayup George...
It sure is, my friend. Thanks.
To any mods, if it is, i've saved it, so it can be removed...
Thanks George again... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Ayup All...
This is the closest unblurry view you're gonna get of the now Boxed-in wheel wells. I don't know yet if the Undie legs are gonna pop in... I hope they do... 'Cos they looked well (pun NOT Intended ) dodgy without inserts potentially in the way...
When i see other modellers cutting Plasticard, it all seems SO easy and Do-able... Believe you me, bending even 5 thou card to conform is an art and this type of job is one i wouldn't expect Anyone with any sanity to attempt. Not in '72, anyways, Good job mine went South some years ago... Trying to anchor bent plasticard to a 1.5mm width is Interesting to say the least. On those blue lines, i have plastic strip yet to fit. stuff it, that's tomorrow. I'll dunk my KT in gunk to wind down i think....
Wheel wells...

Ayup Roger...
You're not wrong... I shan't be doing this again... Thank god for Resin, eh? and primer... and all this for Hu78...
But, I shall persist. As long as i pull my finger out over the coming week, I should make the deadline... And there are no major problems... Luckily i have a 'spare' kit. And most of the PE left now is very much 'stick-ons' for the undercarriage covers...
I found out what my 'Ammo Box' covers were peeps. They're actually little doors that allow the wing bracing arm locks to be accessed. Like the fulmar, (which has much more elaborate wing steadying braces) there are two fold-out bars IN the fuselage, (represented in PE on the side of the Fuselage in front of the elevators) that come out and fit into the locks beneath these covers IN the wing. very important for storing beneath decks in a Carrier at sea... one of those wings banging into you at sea could've been a fatal occurence... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Ayup All...
More progress and looking good...
Wheel wells are finished with rod and strip added to represent the strengtheners and inspection bays. (real or imaginary, i'm not sure...) I've added the PE sides to the wing halves too and mighty fine it looks too...
I've also filled and sanded where necessary, but there are places for Mr Surfacer to be painted. this time i'll thin it a little with cellulose... or use 1200 grade...
It's also time for the transparencies to be fitted permanently but i need to polish the rear ones again where i screwed up with CA.
A 'Beauty' shot with the KT... that, Thor and My Cuirassier have sadly been neglected, but all for the GB's greater good... I don't wanna have to go to GB Plus as the GB Leader !

Ayup Paul...
Thankyouverymuch...
I've quickly taken a coupla pics as the lights still good here at home...
You can see here what i've tried to achieve...
Nose shot...
3/4 Beauty shot...
I have glued the PE Undecarriage covers to plasticard to make new ones as they are bigger than the kit parts... and i shall do the same for the main Oleo covers too. I need to do some priming now, so i shall get some car primer tomorrow from the Auto shop. Enjoy... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.
