I will be building the latest boxing in the Blue and grey scheme. I will be using the kit decals (hopefully) . I did try one and thankfully it didn't break up in the water. Far from it, it was still attached to the paper after an hour! I did eventually manage to slide it off without any damage.
Here's the box and decal sheet...
the instuctions and sprues.
I started by assembling the torpedo (well, it makes a change from doing the cockpit first) and have also done a bit of cockpit assembly. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

I've had the hairy stick out and done a bit of painting. The interior is Aeromaster acrylic US Interior Yellow and the flying suits Hu72.
Now the Lee is finished I should make more rapid progress. _________________ So many kits, so little time

After finishing the interior I've completed assembly of the main airframe so its on to the filling and sanding next.

Filling and sanding done, first coat of primer applied and... abit more filling and sanding required. (Isn't it always the way.)
Getting there slowly but surely. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

Coming along nicely - this is the first time I have seen the use of interior yellow. I thought they used interior green, so you live and learn, which is what's great about this forum.

Ayup Bob...
Weird innit? the zinc chromate green up above, seems to have turned into yellow now !

| There's a lengthy discussion on interior colours (and exterior colours for that matter) in the 'chat' thread if anyone is interested. |

After some more filling and sanding, Idecided to paint the interior green instead of yellow and gave it a second coat of primer. I then painted the upper surfaces and lower outer wings Hu87 and the undersides Hu129. ( It might not be quite right, but it looks close enough for me )
Then came the decals. I was using the kit decals and everything was fine until I came to the wings and found that the decals wouldn't settle over the ridges, instead they went into slices and came apart.
As this was the first one I'd tried on a wing I decided that I wouldn't press them down so hard and gave them a quick coat of Klear to stop them coming off, as when I sealed in those on the fuselage they moved, despite being on for nearly a week. After two coats of Matt Cote and adding the undercarriage and torpedo it was finally complete apart from the US cockade under one wing due to the problem mentioned earlier.
Considering the problem with the decals I think it's turned out OK. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

| That looks really good in a simple grey coat. The decal problem looks like a nightmare that you overcame well - odd as I don't remember the problem on mine, but it was a long time ago. |

Lovely work! A beautifully neat model. To me, a Devastator isn't a Devastator unless it's in wartime colours. The yellow wings schemes are beautiful, but the tragedy of the TBD at war is, to my mind, too significant to ignore.
Which squadron is the aircraft from? |
