'I have used the shot-pot acrylics, ooer !! awful.
Are Airfix putting the latest acrylics in the old style shot-pots ? or are they still best thrown out ? '
I've been building my Fawklands set and some of the paints are the old formula and some are the new! Which is really annoying _________________ Does this count as a new signature? |

How will anyone know whether the old or new formula is included unless they try it
You may be unlucky and pick up an old boxing with 100% paint-ball pots You may pick up a transitionary boxing with some old and some new Or you may strike lucky and get a whole new set
But how would you know which boxing to buy
I know what you're thinking, did he fire six shots or was it five
How lucky do ya feel punk _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

OK.....How about this:
I really want the Meteor & V1 Dogfight Double.....But I want the paints etc. like a hole in the head and there aint no way I'm messing up building my Meteor & V1 with them regardless of which formula they are alleged to be! So I would propose using the paints and glue to ruin build another Airfix kit.....probably a monocolour one!
If this is acceptable and the GB isn't too soon.....I'm in!
All the best

I should think that to keep it nice and simple, we only build the starter kit using what's in the box with simple tools (as previously stated - I'm sure nearer the time we can draw up some rules )
Just to get this ball rolling, shall we set up a poll to determine the start date? We seem to have enough takers to make this a go-er. I'm thinking this GB will run from around February/March until April/May. It doesn't need to be long as I should think most builds will only take a few days to complete Perhaps a reward of a gold star should be offered to the quickest builder _________________ Owen

I'm looking at the Special GB calendar for this year to get an idea of available slots. I'll set up a poll with some options for GB's in the next few days.

I have a slight problem in that my Gift Sets have been broken down into their constituent parts
All my Paintball-Pot acrylics are in a box together (so I don't know what came with the kits, and the plastic is stored elsewhere
I'd like to enter the spirit of the build, but I don't want to purchase any more Gift Sets _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I should think we can excersise reason here - if you know what was in your gift set, then fair dos! I don't think you should be penalised because your box is already open! _________________ Owen

For those who haven't got a gift set, or like me are too mean to buy one, can't we just make it open to any series 1 kit, assembled with standard glue, painted with one brush only using only the colours in the instructions, no aftermarket, no Klear, no airbrushes.
It would make the build open to everyone, and could make a wonderful theme for the Cosford show.
Airfix 1/72, OOB a Tribute to model making, just for the Fun of it.

this sounds like it could be quite interesting and a bit of fun, but im not sure about using the brush and paints that you get in these type of kits _________________ Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. |

Me too, I meant only use the colour scheme called out in the kit, not necessarily any paints (or brush) supplied with it.

Patience, young grasshopper. No need for a race!
For anyone that doesn't want to purchase a new gift set, I seem to recall that I have a mountain of small paint pots gleaned from various boxed sets which I would be willing to dole out to anyone needing them. Not certain of what colours I've got, but I can have a root about when the time comes. _________________ Cheers,

Whilst your development sounds great, it would be moving away from the original idea - the whole point, as I see it is to build a kit with simple tools using only the paint, brush and glue included in the box
If anyone does not want to buy a starter kit, and use separate paints/brush/glue, then that should be fine by any means, but the subject of the build must be covered by a starter set in the current, or previous Airfix range and the build must use the same contents that could be found in the original starter set (i.e., for a Spitfire Mk.I, that'd mean three pots of paint, one brush and one tube of glue - using more than one brush and all of the colours in the callouts would defy the point of a starter kit GB).
Perhaps we could organise a second GB at a later date - an Airfix OOB GB - restricted, as you say, to any Series 1 kits and built according to the instructions but made with no fancy (or not so fancy) airbrushes, filler or aftermarket bits. _________________ Owen

It wasn't my 'development'.

Only basic modelling tools to be allowed (say, scissors, glue, knife etc), with no filler, no masking tape, no fancy frills!
How about it? |
When you say starter kits, are you referring to a gift set with the brush, glue and paints included, or just a basic series 1/2 kit?
Might be an idea for a challenge, - model to be built as simply as possible using basic techniques with basic tools.
1. Knife.
2. Tube glue.
3. One file, or a piece of sanding paper.
4. Construction OOB, no alterations, except to finesse the fit or clean up seams/joins using the above tools.
5. Only Humbrol paints used in instructions, as directed in the instructions - applied by brush.
6. Gloss cote - brush applied.
7. Kit decals.
8. Matt cote - brush applied.
No filler, no Klear, no cyano, no pva, no primer, no airbrushing, no washes, no weathering, no alterations, no plastic card, no resin, no photo-etch etc.
Back to basics, like you were 10 years old all over again - just back from Woolies or the corner shop with your pocket money purchase!

As a neutral none builder of this GB. I would like to say that I think Owen has the best straightforward idea.
The spirit is the important element, build as if you had a giftset. Paint colours would not be set in stone because often a colour is substituted in these kits.

I think this idea died on the vine. I'd actually like to participate in the GB if it ever happened (he said, knowing that it probably won't). _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”
