As the title suggests, I will be building some very small tanks.....A trio of Vickers MkVIs.
At least I can be certain the tracks will be OK on this one.....With a little filing!
All the best

Are you building one each of the three versions that's in the box? _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

I'm not decided yet, but probably not.....A full platoon of three 'type a' or 'type b' would be the more likely bet.
All the best
Sgt.S
PS - I have two JB boxings (Which would, by my estimation constitute 40% of the parts, were I to build five models. ).....If I could chuck these into the mix I'd have a wider variety of options.
PPS - I'll even mix the bits.....Just to show good faith! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

OK.....It's tiny armoured horde time!
I shall be building five Vickers Mk.VIs in total.....Three 'type a' and two 'type b'. My builds will all be kit-bashes, using parts from three Airfix kits and two of the (remarkably similar) kits from JB Models!
First up will be much filing of track runs.....Once that is done these models should go together pretty quickly. I've built the JB release of this one before and it really is a nice simple kit that almost builds itself**.
All the best
Sgt.S
** Unless you decide to add the missing rivets of course.....There is absolutely no chance whatsoever of that particular insanity on my part though! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

I have to say that the first thing I noticed on opening the various kits was that the JB version is much more economically packaged.....A simple end opening box with all the 'precious things' contained in a handy reusable and quite big ziploc!
For what it's worth & all the best
Sgt.S
PS - The JB decals look better quality too.....The Airfix ones look a bit worrying TBH.
PPS - I've just discovered that one of the Airfix tracks was badly miscast.....When it broke as I was taking it off the sprue! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

Famous last words!
Upon closer inspection (& much sanding) it seems that the mismould is shared by both the JB & Airfix releases of the kit.....It looks as if there is a problem getting plastic to flow into the extremities of the (quite tiny) tracks.
Between the five kits I only have four perfect track runs, two each JB & Airfix.....The rest all have mismoulds to some extent or another. Anyway repairs have been made to the one that broke and I'm sanding away at the mould seams now. The rest can be 'battle-damage'.
For what it's worth & all the best

The Production Line:
The models at the front are 'type b', those at the back are 'type a'.

That's a shame about the tracks. I'd like one of these myself. I understand that it's not accurate for a 'c', is that right? _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

The tracks are a bit poor.....You can see the defects clearly on the bottom of the left side track of the front left side model.
Regarding the 'type c', it's only a few minor accuracy issues.....Nothing that you would struggle to fix Brews.
See DavidM's comments in this thread:
http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/about12694.html
I've just noticed that I somehow built my first one as a strange 'type a/b' hybrid.....I could now correct this, but I don't think I'll bother as it kind of suits the Operation Sealion background these are intended for.
All the best
Sgt.S
PS - Modelltrans Modellbau have just released the Vickers Mk.VI in 1/72 resin.....It looks very smart:

The Airfix kits are quite a bit cheaper and easier to get though! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

Is that sand coloured plastic? My Vickers is grey. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

By coincidence (or bad instructions) I built my first Mark VI (JB Models issue) like that. Spooky...
Never had problems with the tracks though.
There are some other details to be added by the adventurous, like the tray under the guns which I think was to catch empty cartridge cases - have to see if there are any decent pics out there.

Nope.....The Airfix parts are olive green and the JB are pale grey.....It's just that my 'photographic lighting' is very yellow indeed!
I've had a slight change of plan, in that I'm now building two 'type a' and three 'type b'.....They will be built pretty much OOTB, I may add some stowage, but that'll be about it.
All the best

Could we have some more detailed pictures please? |

Cheers Minty!
They are taking shape quite fast now:
Just the final details to go and the build is complete.

Cheers!
Having just checked (as a result of Spudgun's reminder) and discovered that I'd got the suspension wrong on my old build, I'm now working on six Vickers Mk.VIs.....Three each 'types a & b'!
TBH I'm enjoying these so much that I'm seriously thinking about getting another five of them, to give me three representative squadrons of three and a two vehicle HQ.
I have a couple of questions regarding the makings of these vehicles:
Would the usual diamond (HQ), square, triangle, circle (Squadrons) be correct for Mk.VIs.....Were they deployed in this fashion? (The reason I ask is that all the vehicles depicted appear to be HQ units (diamond tac sign)
I've seen coloured pennants on numerous British AFVs and I presume they must have had some identifying function.....Does anyone have any idea how the system worked?
TIA & All the best
