I think that delaying the start until the 1st March was the right decision. A couple of ATF'ers have joined since the Poll closed. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

I've got a 1 tonne Landy ambulance to contribute that should put me well outside of my comfort zone. It'll be all OOB as I'm gonna follow the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid ) principle.
BTW - haven't made it to the downtown model shop to have a look for your mega-choo-choo yet Sarge - but promise I will do at some point .

Good morning GB'rs. It's the 1st of March and the Ex-JB Models Group Build has started!
Although the entire range of the ex-JB kits aren't represented in this GB, there's a big enough selection to indicate the overall quality of the kits.
I'll bet that Airfix was happy with the sales figures! _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

As there is so much Aussie potential in the Ex JB range I will have to go nuts and do something different...
To start with an M113 FSV with the Saladin Turret and then the M113A1 MRV with the Scorpion Turret that replaced it and maybe a Landrover or two. |

You'll need to do a bit of work on the blanking plate on the roof of the FSV as the kit one is the wrong shape - the rear lefthand corner should be cut off diagonally to clear the fuel filler cap (always useful), Then the vent fan on the roof to the rear of the plate needs eliminating, the FSV used the turret fan instead.
Aerial bases are different too. Strangely neither Tamiya or JB noticed any of these features...

Well folks, there's four weeks left to run on this GB and thus far there's been some nice finished kits.
Crack on the rest of you. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

While checking the Airfix website (as regards AFCBGeorge's Landrover), I was somewhat dismayed at the description for the LWB Hardtop Landrover. It was written that the hardtop was mostly used by the Signals and that they had a 24 Volt AC electrical system to power the radios. Well, no they didn't!
OK, I'd better explain. I'm ex-Royal Signals (1978 to 1984) and we used LWB soft top Landrovers. Yes, these Landies had a specialised electrical system (They were called FFR Rovers), but it was DC and not AC. The radios were all Clansman sets. You wouldn't know if you had an FFR Rover unless you looked under the bonnet. FFR's had massive alternators!!!!
Externally, the Airfix kit differs from the FFR. About halfway back on each front wing sat a SWR matching box. On top of this box sat a rubber mount for a whip ariel. Half way back on the outside (on each side) of the rear compartment was mounted ariel bases. These were never used so there were never any rubber whip mounts on them.
I won't go into the detail on what was mounted on the inside as there's nothing provided with the kit. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

Well folks, the final minutes are ticking away towards the end of this GB. I'd like to thank everyone who took part for putting up with me and turning out some very nice kits.
To those who haven't finished yet (waggy finger), I trust that you'll continue and complete your kits without me sticking my nose in.
Once again thanks.
I'm off to build another kit. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |
