Interesting suggestion regarding the wargaming, I am considering knocking up a very small area of WW1 battlefield to try out the Warhammer historical WW1 rules. I was planning to have a go at this as a solo wargame using the recently re-released Airfix WW1 figures but would be happy to have a go at putting together some very simple rules (perhaps assited by Sarge) for people to try out a game.
Incidently, I am working on Mrs stuzzar agreeing to a long weekend in Telford by way of a holiday break, I haven't yet mentioned the fact that she may be on her own for a while , hope there are plenty of shoe shops there
Cheers

I like the idea of a "My Airfix" where everyone makes their favourite kit with a bit of a brief written blurb saying why - it might not always be the best kit Airfix ever made but it does bring the personal touch as to what and why people make things, and what Airfix means to them. _________________ "In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility." I dunno, I reckon the Chipmunk is one of my faves - I can still remember buying that, blister pack and all, in Wokingham for 17p back in 1970-something.
The great thing is that people might come up with things that others would go "what?!" - but the whole point is that modelling is down to individual tastes. _________________ "In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility." (Shakespeare) |

I've never done the J-EJ, shock horror! I'm tempted to build one of the old tool issues to see 'what all the fuss is about'
My favourite would proably be something like the Westland Whirlwind or Beaufighter TF.X _________________ Owen

Hey Stu,
I've been taking my missus to Telford for the last couple of years and she always finds things to do - there is a large shopping centre and a muliplex cinema that she usually visits. And you are less than a 15minute drive to Ironbridge Gorge with it own collection of shops and attractions (but hope the weather is better than last year though = WET!)
That's why Telford always leaves my plastic in meltdown, because she's spending as much on books in Waterstones and luxury coffee and hot chocolate in Whittards (but not next year - they are victims of the recession unfortunately) as I am on boxes of plastic, decals paint etc. - not to mention the bargains in the kit swap.
Cheers

It has been a bit quiet in here for a while, last post was three months ago.
Is it time to start planning the Telford display and building a few kits?
This is a big anniversary year for Airfix and the first year for AMSIG, the suggestion was that we celebrate the history of Airfix. Has anyone got any plastic proposals as to how we progress this?

Probably, a lot of other branches and SIGs will already be looking at it. The theme is handed to us on a plate, but how will it develop? Jonathan's idea looks promising.

I'd like to see a variety of genres from each decade, not just aircraft, but ships, figures, AFV's, whatever _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I think you've hit the nail on the head there mate - if Airfix meant anything to me it was variety: add to your list Hovercraft (x2) , Trains and Railway related bits and bobs, Motorbikes, The Old Bus and Fire Engine, The big Sailing Ships (and the little ones), the 1/12 Historic figures, the 1/32 scale figures, the 1/72 scale figures, Dinosaurs, British Birds, not to mention the very relevant this year Space Ships and Lunar Module, etc. etc, etc.
I could rebuild my Honda CB750 Four for the display if wanted (I dropped it coming home from model club one night and it is now in more bits than were originally supplied on the sprues!!) and the 1/24 Stuka.
Cheers

This December will mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. I'll be working on an HMS Exeter conversion from HMS Ajax. Does this theme grab anybody?
Airfix kits to choose from could include:
DKM Graf Spee
HMS Ajax
HMS Achilles (converted from Ajax)
HMS Cumberland (Conversion from Suffolk)
Supermarine Walrus

I've been messing with WWI wargaming too.....I use the 'Contemptible Little Armies' rules, but would be happy to collaborate on a custom rule-set.
For what it's worth, all the best

Sorry to put a dampener on things guys, but I really don't think we'll have room for wargames on the stand. Also, as it's our first show at Telford and having seen the chaos other 'demos' have caused elsewhere, I think it would be better if we just went for a static display.
With regards to the theme, we're going for the History of Airfix for the anniversary, hopefully showing at least one of each genre of kit for each decade. We'll start asking for people to let us know what kits they can bring with them shortly, then we'll be having a group build to fill in any gaps. We need to have some old favourites there (JE*J anybody? ), but it would be nice to have some out of the ordinary ones too. _________________ Cheers,
