Ayup All...

Anyone fancy an Airfix (and Dapol by association, 'cos they bought 'em)  Rail GB later on this year?

It's just as I plan to build my 'Evening Star' sometime later on in the year and we have a lot of Railheads here too...     (and it'd look good on the Display at Telford...)

He won't be up yet Stu - he's a teenager!

Funnily enough, I've got a Dapol something-or-other in my stash, so I might be persuaded to do this, despite not knowing a single thing about choo-choos.

Ayup Adrian...

Me neither as regards gauges and so on, (But i AM an EX- Boilerman, so i know a bit) but the talk of choo choos and of building summat different has whetted my appetite. I could give the new Airfix Rail paints a whirl, too...

Just think, we could include Trevithicks Loco as well... mmmmm... Motors...

Some of those rail kits are a very nice build. Quickest would be the Ore Wagon. Hardest might be Evening Star, even that one is easy though really, nothing really difficult. Making sure the connecting rods are straight and there is no binding and that's it really.

Yes feo they can all be built to roll with all bits working, it all depends on how careful you are. I never had much success after lighting the boilers though .. ROTFL

Well of course, I needed hot soft plastic to practice my streched sprue technique ....

Dapol kits are more readily available from railway stockists rather than model shops

Dapol used to sell direct, I don't know if that is still the case, have a look at their quirky website.

Plenty come up on eBay though, especially Airfix rolling stock, which were moulded when the moulds were still in great condition.

Wikipedia wrote:
The historical significance of City of Truro led to its survival after withdrawal from service in 1931. It was purchased by the London and North Eastern Railway and was subsequently displayed at a new museum in York. In 1957 it was returned to service by British Railways; based at Didcot, it was used both for hauling special excursion trains and for normal revenue services, usually on the Newbury and Southampton branch line, and was renumbered back to 3440.

Apparently it was in a museum.....That might not preclude its use in defence of a nation invaded of course.

Anything more utilitarian (and easy to get hold of)?
