The 2-6-2 Prairies would have been seen in both green and black GWR livery, the Schools is a possibility (mostly passenger work - but in wartime, everything was used on anything)  Juggling

The historical significance of City of Truro led to its survival after withdrawal from service in 1931. It was purchased by the London and North Eastern Railway and was subsequently displayed at a new museum in York. In 1957 it was returned to service by British Railways; based at Didcot, it was used both for hauling special excursion trains and for normal revenue services, usually on the Newbury and Southampton branch line, and was renumbered back to 3440.

Apparently it was in a museum.....That might not preclude its use in defence of a nation invaded of course.

Anything more utilitarian (and easy to get hold of)?

That's interesting and I was only being fasc.... fash ..... er taking the mick.

Several can be eliminated Evening Star , Deltic, Drewry, Railcar, Cement wagon, re-fridge wagon, Mineral wagon, Siphon wagon , diesel shunter, Mogul,

An idea immediately sprang to mind when I saw this thread.....A 'Build Your Own' Airfix/Dapol 1/76 armoured train for Operation Sealion.

Presumably most of the required bits would be available.....Anyone got linkys?

Eh? What's going on here? Who dares blow my cobwebs off this dark corner of the ATF and suggest we do a Railway GB?

I like the sound of a Locomotive Build - there are plenty in the range. I've got a few in my stash that I'd like to build at some point. Remember, we did a Dapol/Airfix Railway build a year or two ago.

In production at the moment, you can build:

- 2-10-0 BR 9F/Evening Star
- 0-4-0 Pug
- 2-6-2 Prairie
- 2-6-0 BR 4MT Mogul
- 4-6-2 SR Battle of Britain/West Country Class
- 4-4-0 City of Truro
- 4-4-0 Schools Class
- Stephenson's Rocket
- Trevithick's Steam Locomotive (Recent Re-Release in Airfix Range)

If we broaden the scope, then there is also the possibility of building many of the rolling stock items that were also part of the range.

I'll definatly be up for this, and with the current interest I could see it going ahead as planned.

I hope that wasn't sarcasm, or you won't be leading this GB!

Wasn't snitching - honest
(Owen only had to scroll up the page)

It's my pathetic sense of humour again Stu- Owen's comment sounded like it was straight out of a folk story, i couldn't help but think of the giant at the top of the beanstalk

Someone mentioned that Dapol kits now come with metal wheels.

This is only partly true.

Steam locos do not have metal or metalised wheels in the kit.

Later (2008 on ward) Dapol kits of rolling stock do have metal or metalised wheels included in the kit to suit oo gauge track, and Hornby type couplings.
Railcar and 15 ton diesel crane (it's not clear I would suspect plastic wheels only)

NO weights are included with any of these kits; to run on a model railway suitable weighting will be required.

That's what I meant to say Airhead

A small strip of Lead along the bottom of a wagon is enough to weigh them down - otherwise they'll jiggle around the shop, especially on crossovers/points

Could someone please show me an appropriate 1940s loco that I can readily buy and stick plasticard all over.....A tank engine might be amusing.

I really haven't got a clue when it comes to 'Chuffy-Things' so any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best
Sgt.S
PS - Presumably an armoured train would have two locos?  Think
