Actually made a start on these. First up is the Wildcat Mk.VI.

Sprues etc.

Not too many parts, plenty of rivets though! The cartograf decals look excellent. I'll be doing the Wildcat in the JV884 scheme of dark blue.

Made a start, the interior was painted 226 interior green and glued together. The wings have been glued and sanded free of rivets. I won't be using the rockets, so I've filled the attachment points. I will use the wing tanks.

Ayup Rich...

Nice start.
Can i say, i'd have glued a little plasticard behind the rocket mounting holes (say 5 thou) and then filled 3 sets of small holes and not wasted all that valuable filler...

Did the trick with the card   , there's really just a smidgeon of filler on the wings, looks a lot more than there is in the photo's. Any way, the masking tamiya tape is probably double the price of the filler

I find plugging the holes with some Microrod then cutting it off flush with the wing using snips saves a great deal of filling on jobs like this!

The decals look very adequate. Strange, though, that Cartograf seem to lack the confidence of printing all three colours of a roundel concentrically. Maybe they have their own registration issues.

Another couple of coats airbrushed on, then decals (makes a nice change to have a gloss paint surface). If you look closely at the fuselage roundel you can see it's slightly out of register    - so even Cartograf have off days!

Finished up with satin cote and some exhaust staining, added the larger pilot from Spitfire kit to fill the cockpit a bit more,  fixed the canopy in place and did the framing with painted decal paper. I also added a couple of decals on the underside of the fusleage to represent some grilles which are pictured in the painting instructions.

I tried to vary the finish by painting the rudder and flaps/ailerons a different blue and applied chipping. I think the blue paint mix I used is a bit too dark, as it almost perfectly matches the blue of the roundels.

Grumman Wildcat Mk.VI JV884 "B*1C" of 882 NAS, FAA aboard HMS Searcher, British East Indies Fleet, 1945.
