Thanks, Lincolnlanc.
I do try to do our heroes justice.
Using white glue to make floor mats, is a tip I once found in "Scale Auto" magazine.
I'm sure the technique can be used to make many other things.
Just remember to use some form of release agent on the surface you want to make a cast of.
You can mix colour into the glue before pouring it, if you don’t want to paint it afterwards.

Making working door hinges turned out to be a little more time consuming than I first thought.
But now I have done the left door, and given the hinges a little lick of paint to show places that need more work.
I think I’ll make the deadline, but it will be close.

Nice work on the figures, and the new door hinges are a big improvement. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

I need at least 14 days more to finish my model.
I'm quite unproductive at the moment I’m afraid, having too many things to think about.
But I think it's better to take my time, and do a decent job, than to rush it just to finish.

On the photo with the hinges, i'm afraid it looks as if the bottom of the door has got rust rot starting ... (takes me back to the days of filler on the 1:1 scale)
Nice work Jesper, take your time youv'e only got the time it takes. _________________ "Well Chaps ... my watch says time to go ..." |

I gave the van a cote of paint yesterday so I can put decals on today.
The decals are crisp in colours, nice to work with, but WRONG!
Why is the “Safe*Secure*Humane” decal almost too big to fit (around 5-10% bigger than the movie van) and printed pink instead of white?
The “Anti-Pesto” decal is missing the van colour in the inner circle, instead it is white.
You have to carefully paint it yourself is you want it to look right. Why hasn’t Airfix made this area transparent?
The license plates should have a “fatter” font and letters/numbers in white instead of silver-gray.
The registration decal on the windscreen is completely wrong too.
All stupid errors easily avoided by Airfix with a little more research.
The model on the box (The real movie van with superimposed figures?) is correct.
I’ll post some pictures later.

Door marking as it’s seen in the movie:
Decal as provided by Airfix.
Note the white border around the S.W.A.T. TEAM is also far too narrow, and the whole decal is over scaled too:
I do not intend to widen the white border, since I don’t think I can make it look good enough.
So here is the decal after a little body colour fill-in.
Normally I’m not a nitpicker, but all these small errors do annoy me, since they would haw been so easy to avoid.

Nice work on the anti-pesto decal, the body colour infill definitely improves the look of it. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

I’m getting closer.
Since the last post, I have made the rotation light look more realistic with some mechanism inside,
painted the indicator and stop lights, and painted the interior panels.
But I still haven’t found out how I'm going to make many of the smaller details:
Window vipers, door handles, hood ornament, and dents in the chromed parts.
All the small things making it fun to do some “scratching”.

I’m still working on it, but not as much as I want to at the moment. Sorry.
Painted the whole van with matt paint and given it some car wax and a light polish to make the appearance a little tired and worn.
I think it will work fine when I'm finished.

Slow progress.
I have still some problems I need a solution to solve.
The patina and weathering is on the way at the moment.
The upper part is not fully in place at the picture.

Thanks ColinM.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to make dents and bumps in plated parts without ruin the plating?
Can I gently heat and bend the part without cracking the surface?
If not, then I have to re-plate my bumpers with metal foil, witch I think would look better anyway.

Looks great that van and the hard work you have put into it has paid off. I cant suggest an alternative to using a 'red' hot tool of a kind to indent the bumper but on the real thing when you did get a severe dint then the chrome did used to lift off and in time water/rust got behind it and it 'pited' real badly so i should not worry to unduly if the chrome plating cracks.

I put some dents in a drop tank using a rotary grinding tool but that wouldn't preserve the chrome plating
There again - you could glue silver foil in the dent and leave a slightly rough edge, as though the chrome has rusted underneath and has started flaking off _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here
