"Does it mean then that all the Lanc kit wheels are the wrong size ?"
I wouldn't like to say about that one other than of the Airfix, Revell and Matchbox kits ALL the wheels are different.
Photo update shows the mock-up bouncing bomb in place ....
Still abit more to be doing yet before completion although i dont think its to far away now.

That thing about the wheels is interesting.
The CMK wheels are very close to the Airfix in size, as are the Hasegawa. _________________ Bubbly! |

| I've heard that of the available kits, the Airfix wheels are the best. |

Just a quick pic before i go out for the night.
Under nose bomb-aimer's position had the large oval window and after cutting out the floor and inserting some 'ribs' i have placed the sheet of clear into the gap.
hopefully will be able to cut out an oval using Tamiya tape then paint black ....

Not a clear photo unfortunately but i just thought i would tell you of the method here to paint the oval window: a first for me .
I tried to cut out some Tamiya tape but with no joy, i couldn't get it accurate enough with it being so small .
Thought then the thing to do was to paint the clear sheet hoping to be able to leave the oval.
Well i did paint but thought that it was to small ... what to do then
If i tried to wipe it off i thought it would smear the clear sheet and 'frost' the glass .
Never tried this before but i got a clean brush with some tinner on and gently wipe around the inside of the oval in a bid to make it bigger .
Kept cleaning the brush and hey-presto .. it worked
It made me a happy chappie

Tried again to take a decent picture of the 'bomb' on the aircraft but cos its black there is no detail to be seen although i think the profile looks about right ...
No doubt on the set of the film they had a similar vehicle to bring in the bomb to be attached to the aircraft after all the flying shots without it, heres my interpretation ...
I have now got the new decals, squadron codes and serial applied and need to wait B4 gloss cote.
Rear turret is the stumbling block but hopefully ... (SIX days to go !)

Decals on ...
I was always going to produce F/Lt. John Hopgood's aircraft as it was the one that went down over the Mohne dam.
When i get the canopy painted i will probably venture outside to get some brighter photos of the completed aircraft.

I have tried to match the camouflage with that hastily applied to the original aircraft for the film. It was not the usual BC standard camouflage but it did not matter to much for the film as you saw very little of the aircraft from above.
As its raining i cannot get outside to take some pics of the aircraft but hopefully in a few days ...

|

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement ...
I managed to paint the canopy yesterday, no raised lines on this so it was based on the Airfix canopy ...
.
After having applied the decals, i aplied some Matt Cote but this unfortunately damaged them , it lifting them off in places, so i had to re-paint one side this morning, the other side a little later in the day. 'M' is still wet. ...
Isnt there some solution you can apply to decals whilst still on the sheet Is it not the case then that once submersed in water and applied to the aircraft, they can be 'sealed' without breaking up

Ayup LL...
It's called Liquid 'Decalfilm' I think. you can paint it on beforehand, over the decals on the sheet. and then there's Klear... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

[quote="Lincolnlanc"]I know the Dambuster film was done in '54 but the aircraft was 'issued' from storage in 1953 for the Mayflower film, 'Appointment in London' so to me its the 1953 Lancaster.
Off the cuff, mods that need doing ...
Under nose bomb-aimer 'oval' window
Cockpit rearmost cupola (W/op. look-out)
Rebecca aerials
Air-intake - fuselage
FN82 rear gun turret
Lincoln style rudders
Treaded main wheels
Twin shimmy tail wheel
Exhausts stubbs
Paddle prop blades
Modified bomb bay
'Upkeep' mine
Non-standard camouflage scheme
New larger Codes and serials
Completed at last other than the FN82 turret ...
