| Lovely. Shows off nicely what an attractive aircraft the Vanguard was. Looking forward to seeing this in the attractive BEA livery, never been a big fan of BA's colours. |

Sadly I'm now stuffed on this build for a fortnight - I'm in Hong Kong til Sunday and then Manila til the following Sunday so I can't finish in time. Still, next step is the lovely, rich red of the wings...

There has been a bit of slow progress on this since I last posted a long time ago... a month ago, in fact!
The wings have been redded using Revell enamel and the engine nacelles and the leading edges have also been silvered with H11. The whole thing just needs a bit of a tidy up now before Klear and decals but I won't get that done for a long time as Paula and I are off on hols from Wednesday and we have alot to get done in the meantime out there in the real world....
Anyway, here's the progress:

I haven't forgotten about this - in fact I just spent a few minutes touching up some of the spots where there had been some bleeding going on. To all intents and purposes it's now ready for a coat or two of Klear and for me to get the landing gear on.... I'll do that and get the decals on before I add the props so they don't get in the way.

Nose black, landing gear and gear doors on:
I've since painted the main gear doors silver.
Ready for Klear now.

Hmmm – grumpy Dan.
This is as far as I’ve got with the Vanguard:
As you can see it’s actually quite a long way. I’ve just added the decals – well some of them. There are two sheets and I’ve applied all of the first set of decals from the sheet of clear decal paper. The trouble is that the second sheet is supposed to be printed on white decal paper – such things as the registrations and the “BEA” logo for the wings. The sheet even says “white decal paper” on the top. Except it’s not. It’s clear. Which means that the logo doesn’t show up on the red wings and nor does the registration on the inky black.
So now I have to go around the aircraft, figure where these decals should go, mask off and paint the areas white so the stencilling will show through.
Honestly, it’s days like the last two, what with this and my clumsy feet on the beemer last night, that just make you want to pack it all in!

Chill pill dude.....It's close to the finish and it's looking good!
I'd love one of those 'fangly-decal-printing-thingies' that can print in white.....For all the faffing you have to do with clear or white decal, you might as well just make your own masks and spray.
These things (like eensy weensy single track links with GIGANTIC sprue gates) are sent to try us!
All the best

Yeah, I know. But it's definitely a job for tomorrow and for tonight it'll soon be a couple of cans of Grolsch in front of the telly to cool off a bit!

Great looking Vanguard!
Why do vintage schemes look so much better than our temporary paintwork?

So I masked up, using 6mm Tamiya tape on the wings where the masking sat only over paint and Jammydog tape, extremely thin and supposedly great for masking compound curves (given to me as a free sample by models2u), over areas that already had decals sealed in.
I've added three coats of white and this evening removed the masking and again sealed the white in with Klear. There's a wee bit of bleeding but not too bad and likely to be covered up by the decal anyway.
