Ayup All...

Got me bits and pieces like Buffers and couplings fitted and Painted. Gave the last face of the tender its Gloss black coat all
ready for its fall plate and Aluminium lining to the coal hole. I also need to Decal the two Smoke Deflectors before fitting.

All that will be needed then are one or two touch ups, and I'll be ready for Klear. I shall have to wait for my Fox Transfers Decal set to arrive before Decalling all in one go. On Saturday though, I shall buy a long length of Track and set to on my Bridge ! with a bit of luck tomorrow at work, I'll get it all Primed ! LOL...

Loco...

Excuse the Pun, but i have to say I'm well Chuffed with this Build...

Are the wheels on correctly? I only ask because from one side the counterweights? are at bottom left, and from the other side they are also bottom left, which means they are not exactly opposite to each other. Hope this makes sense.

Ayup CSR...

As far as i could get them, yes they are. the wheels were (faintly) lettered 1 to 5 and 1A to 5A, and are 'Handed' to either side of the Wheel Chassis, (step 1), and will only fit one way.as there's a step in the Axle along with a pin and locating hole to lock them together properly.

More than one of these pins on my model was badly short shot, but the step in the wheel halves still lined them up. I attempted to fix the broken pins but it didn't work too well obviously, because when I turned the wheels for painting, I cracked a joint or two...   so they were still weak.

Plus the fact that as i sprayed the chassis before fitting the (painted) wheels, the paint took up the fine bearing tolerances. and thus they were (and still are) stiff. Still, you live and learn.

But for my money, looking at the wheels, the The wheel 'Webs' seem to follow each other more than be Diametrically opposed.
Step 2 has you fit the main Con rods either side, and thus fix the web  positioning. these ARE right, or else paint notwithstanding, the wheels wouldn't turn together. i do have one Con rod pin to replace as when i DID (slightly force) turn the wheels on one occasion, it fell out. but i have 2 spares... Fitting it will be another matter though... as i don't want to disturb the tiny, tiny crank pins which tie all the rods together...

I'll scan the destructions tonight, and post them.

You've got the wheels in the correct position Stu - loco wheels need to be "Quartered" - as far as I understand, motion that is directly opposite each other doesn't work as the cylinders have a chance of becoming stuck.

Crikey, confusing isn't it glad I build tanks not trains

Ayup Bruv

Very nice build , they seem to be pretty good kits for their age, plenty of potential.

Cheers

Ayup Bruv...

Thanks for your kind words.

Yep, they're weird ! All you can do is follow the destructions and hopefully it's been gotten right for you ! (Apart from obvious mistakes...) All I'm doing now is waiting for Decals...

And That's why I'm having an Afternoon off making new Pylons for the Mig 21's  Atoll Missiles...

A LOT more Theraputic than worrying about Wheels, I can tell you !

Ayup All...

Even though i didn't really do any Loco work, i tried to advance my Display Idea for the Star...

I bought a Girder Bridge a coupla weeks ago, because it seemed as interesting as the Turntable. which i forgot to order...

So i took it to work to get it Primed as it needs to be 'bought Along' so to speak, so the Star has somewhere to go...

This is a 'Play' at my Idea. What's happening Beneath the Bridge, as yet, is a Mystery...

And NO, I'm not Carting an Oval with me to shows...

I was so annoyed this morning, as after only spraying the Base and one side of the Girder bridge, I ran out of Primer...

Decals have arrived from Fox Transfers. I only ordered them yesterday afternoon, so Fantastic service there, and There's two coats (three on the Tender as it's easier to do !) of Klear hardening off nicely for this afternoons Decalling session...

Ayup All...

Due to a Weekend 'Malfunction', I didn't do any Decalling. so, today I set to. I got the smokebeox number, Cab Numbering and Boiler Pinstriping done, and the Tender fully Decalled.

One side of the Tender striping fractured, so seven pieces later, it was done. Then the Boiler Pinstriping didn't want to stay put where I wanted it to, but it got done. All was left to 'Dry' and i got 2 coats of Microsol on too. I did use Microset in the process though. These paltry paragraphs DON'T do the swearing, cajoling and Cussing justice. but I got there. All i have to do now is make up the Nameplates for the Smoke Deflectors, Two Commemorative plaques, and we're done.

Here's a coupla pics, but I can't do the Model Justice with my Camera. I'll borrow my Dads  the weekend to wrap this build up.
