I brought my camera home for the weekend but I think I might have left the cable and card reader at work. I have backup cameras, but I'll have to find them. If worse comes to worst, I'll use a webcam, but first, I have chores to do, so it will be some time before they're up.

I've been playing with the bits and I think I've got the general layout sussed.....If it goes horribly wrong you will be seeing probably the first ever armoured train to feature 'schurzen'!

All the best

I decided to just 'go for it'.....My best guess at the running gear is now glued in place:

If it's wrong I reckon I've got about 15 minutes to put it right before the glue sets!  Nailbiting

as someone who's got previous in this line of kits, the running gear on this one is about the hardest of the train kits. but you've nailed it, as my "reference" shows-

but.....  don't be tempted to try to push it along, even though the wheels and running gear SHOULD technically move it doesen't do it too well.
.......ask me how i found that out!

I'm often more than a bit mystified by Stu's (T16S) commentary!

Quick question for those in the know:

There is an 'arch' of piping (part 20) that fits over the boiler.  What is it, is it important and would it need to be present and accessible or could it be sealed behind the armour?

The part will cause me fit problems with my proposed armour plate.

TIA & All the best

I'm pretty sure its the piece of vertical piping visible immediately in front of the cab on your picture above.....With the armour plate in place it's going to be very tight providing any forward visibility in that area and the piping doesn't help at all.

All the best

Would the armour have been removable for servicing?  If so, then no problem - it would be analogous to the streamlining of some of the headline locos in the 30s that later got discarded because it was a pain to keep removing and replacing for servicing.

As I understand it anyway - I'm no expert!

I was planning on going for the battleship school of armour plating, but I suppose I could represent the existence of underlying pipework with various bulges and access hatches.....Not sure how much room it will leave for forward vision though.

All the best
Sgt.S
PS - What kind of loco is being used on this armoured train?

Do Dapol (or anyone else) do one in 1/76 (OO) scale?

I'm guessing RTR means something like 'Ready To Run', if so I could soon take it apart, but is it sufficiently Airfixy (who are Mainline) for the forum?

Is it just me or does the train in question look a bit more like WWI technology than WWII, does anyone have any additional info about it at all?

TIA & All the best

On closer inspection, the loco in the b&w picture appears to have an extra single axle bogey at the front compared to the 14XX and is missing the peculiar flattened hump behind the smoke stack.

Just a thought, all the best

It's all Dutch to me mate!

I'm interested because, to my tremendous surprise, I'm really enjoying this build and am strongly tempted to buy a few more locos and such.

I never really liked trains as a kid, they had far too few guns for my tastes, but nowadays, with the power of 'OSL Whiffery' at hand.....Muhahahaha!

All the best
