Strictly speaking you would need to convert to either DB-7/7A Havoc configuration, P-70 night fighter or (most adventurously) Turbinlight. Maybe the mods will let you get away with a 'creative' paint job!

Richard's suggestion of the Boston III (Intruder) would probably be the easiest as all you would need to do for modifications from the stock kit is find some 'hedgehog' exhausts and add the gun pack, which was just a shallow box from the look of things. Other alternatives would need new noses - the Havoc II Turbinlite which as Rich suggests has the large searchlight in the nose, and the Havoc II Night Fighter which had the Boulton-Paul 12 gun nose - like that of the A-20G only pointier. |
Thanks for the info,I'v got some stuff on the Intruder but it doesn't show the gun pack so I'll do a little more Googleing and see what I can find. _________________ Cheers Glyn. |

| I've got the 'Camouflage and Markings' book for the Boston/Havoc which has a couple of side drawings and a grainy photo - happy to share but you might have more luck yourself. Let me know. |

I'm pretty sure that you'll find the FROG Canberra B(I)8 comes with that gun pack.
I don't know about the Havoc, but the Canberra came with 60 seconds' worth of 4x20mm ammunition. I don't' see why the Havoc couldn't have carried that much, too. |

I've got the Revell 1/72 P-70 and would be happy to measure/photograph/draw the parts.....Assuming I can remember which box I put the kit in.

PS - Going by the rest of the kit, I'm not sure this would in any way guarantee accuracy. _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

Can anyone confirm for me that on the Beau night fighter, only the forward wing lights (position lights) were used and the rear ones blanked off?
Thanks in advance

I've got a few pictures of Beau night fighters and the front and rear tip glazing is visible on all of them. I would assume this to be the case unless you have a reference to show the contrary.

Intuitively, I think you'd be better off using the Canberra's gun pack, but I'll have a look, because I know I have drawings somewhere. |

I was only half-right ;)
I have drawings that I'll scan and email (i.e. need PM).
I have both the Revell P-70 and FROG Canberra. The cannon pack is closer to the P-70s, but it's not quite right. Fortunately, I have underside view, profile and front-on view, so you'll be right
It's a pretty basic shape, more or less rectangular box with rounded corners in profile, and squashed-hemi-spherical ends. It's narrower than either the Revell's or FROG's respective parts.

| Osprey's "American Nightfighter Aces" shows B-25Hs were used by 418th NFS as nightfighters in the Pacific for a short time. This would require minimal conversion, and a new set of decals only, for the Airfix kit. The solid nose would be a bonus for nose weight. Black overall. Wooooo! |

What exactly would have to be modified Brews?
It does sounds like a pretty cool build!

Does an all night black Swordfish Mk.III with ASV Mk.XI radar count? _________________ Cheers, Jan

I'd say it falls into the category of an aircraft that hunts at night, albeit Submarines and Schnellboots.

I'd give that one a big yes.....I really look forward to seing it too!
I'm hoping to do my first proper wingy-kit-bash along not entirely dissimilar lines.
For what it's worth, all the best

Possibly not much more than new decals. I don't have the book in my hot little hands (yet). I might try Abe's books. |

I guess that the radar went in the bomb-aimer's position, below the 4x0.50" cals. The conversion from the Airfix H, then, would be to omit the mid-upper turret and cover over the hole, plug up the hole for the 75mm and insert 4 x 50 cal barrels in the nose |
