I'm as interested as you - I've got a Beau coming to me in the post (just don't tell the wife).
Just found a modellers picture http://ww2-model-airplanes.wfh4l....y/Bristol-Beaufighter/afxbf26.png where they are annotated as fuel dump pipes.

Thanks Graeme. The pieces have a rather heavy dimple in them which I puttied over. Now I can drill them out again. That is a nice site to peruse also.

I'll try the same when it comes to my turn.
I found the site using the search term Beaufighter and cutaway - thinking of those illustrations. I found this model build where the author was converting a 1/32 Revell Beau into a cutaway. It involved a lot of interior detail!
Good pics of cockpit modelling - the Airfix Beau is a trifle sparse even for Airfix.

Thanks Graeme. Have a nice cutaway in the older Ray Rimmell "Modeling aircraft of the Battle of Britain". Of all my references for model building, I really am fond of that one. It is pretty dog-eared now.
Todays update has the general airframe together with the test fitting of the canopy. I must say that over all it is a well fitting kit. The was a tiny step at the wing/fusage joint but over all, considering the age of the kit, it is all good. I did add a pilots seat. Holes will now be drilled to accomodate the radar antennas. It did give thought to adding a new nose cone but the A1 radar was used in some of the USAAF Beaus.
Also today, I worked on the engines. Nothing but kit part here. Flat black with a silver pris-color pencil in lieu of dry brushing. Satisfied, I will let that pass.
Thanks for looking and cheers everyone. _________________ Jeff S

Today's update shows the clear parts fixed in place and antenna holes drilled out. I counted 13 locations in all. The arrow antenna in the nose. Two each on each leading edge of the wings and two each both top and bottom of each wing. When the clear parts are set, I will begin masking for a primer coat.

Almost there surely?
the undercarriage looks quite chunky, in fact checking my (mid-70s) one here in the box what with the mould seams/moulded on oil pipes the struts are almost oval.
Will you be doing anything with them or the u/c doors, which look very thick, seen front on?

My landing gear legs are round but the mold separation lines are a devil to clean up. And what's up with all the raised circles up and down the legs? I did flatten the tires a little bit. The gear doors will be thinned down on the edges. But it is really time to get this one mission ready. _________________ Jeff S

I guess they were trying to get it to look like this
You're doing a great job, you're also an inspiration to others (me at least)

Wow, Graeme, that is a nice picture. Makes me feel a little better about this project. Didn't get a chance to work on it today but over the weekend should have it masked and primered.
Cheers to you _________________ Jeff S

Just a quick check in. Primer coat is on the Beau and settling in for the camo paint. I should have a picture or two later. I am still in.

Today's update. The Beau is coming out of the paint shop with the usual scheme with a twist. This partcular USAAF bird apparently had a replacement tail which was reportly overall OD.
The roundels were oversprayed in preparation for the US stars and bars.
Next project is to figure out what to do with the landing gear doors which, as you know, are very thick. I might try a smash mold or vac form new ones. And then a little reverse masking for the engine fronts.

Tonight, the painting and decaling is complete. Pulling the masks off, there was only a couple of touch-ups required.
When thinking it over about the landing gear doors, I elected to pull out my trusty rat tail file and went to work. With the front edge thinned down, the doors were attached. Also debated in my mind was the color I would use for the rings on the nacelles. I finally settled for a Metallizer color Burnt Exhaust as the USAAF received the Beau from RAF maintainance depots and to me that meant they had been around the block a few times and not show a copper or brass/bronze look.
I noticed that the prop blades seemed to molded with the all the blades at a different pitch. I let that one slide.
Tomorrow, if lucky, I will complete this build by adding the various aerials and antennas.

I'd also like to say very nice work.
It gives me something inspiring to aim for with my Beau. I don't know if I can do the lights but I'll definitely try filing down the u/cart doors.
Graeme
ps forgot to add.
At the moment, the Beau is in queue after a Lanc, the 3rd ATF build, a Matilda and Challenger I, so it'll be a while.

Even with the constant interuptions today I have completed my build for Nightstalkers. The radar aerials are short pieces of wire "super glued" in place. Any bets as to how long they stay on? The comm aerial is stretched sprue. Red decal material was used for the gun muzzle covers. I have to admit, it was done for a little splash of color.
