Or is it the one with the belly-pack full of doom?
Good luck with your build.....I'm looking forward to seeing it.
All the best

Prelims:
This is very much a conglomeration, and could be termed a group effort
The base kit is the 'gash' Ju88 Spudgun sent me to fulfill my propeller request:
Parts:
The Ju88 shown is from nr61, a Revell conversion, which will be providing radar and G series canopy. This will be made into a C series at some point.
Airfix wheels were provided by Vostoc7.
Sprue remains from the Italeri Mistel:
References include the scans kindly provided by Brews:

Work has finally begun!
First removal of the ventral gondola:

This was carried out carefully as it's going on the 88C I'm making.
Next the holes for the external racks and dive brakes were filled in the lower wing halves. I also added the rear undercarriage doors at this point
The first serious piece of conversion work came next, the fin and rudder. Using clear plasticard I tranferred the shape from Brews scan:
This shot shows the significant difference between them:
Here you see the fin sandwiched between the fuselage halves.
The hole left by the removal of the leading edge can be seen in the process of being filled.
Also shown is the Italeri cockpit floor and rear bulkhead. _________________ Bubbly! |

Fin completed:
Horizontal tail surface alterations begin:
Elevators. You can just make out the bit that had to be removed from the fixed area. Blending with filler next!
Wings and tail fitted:

Continuing my journey forward the construction of the belly pack is next.
The balsa was cut and shaped as shown. Two holes were drilled in the underside and plastic rod cemented in place to help anchor the 'pack' in place.
At this point I finished building the cockpit using the Italeri spares. The two forward seats came from general spares.
Belly pack secured:
And post filling, sanding, and priming. A little more work required now I've seen the photo though!
Here are the relevant pieces I needed from nr61s Ju88. As you can just about see this has acquired the Airfix canopy and ventral gondola!

Oh yes, that work on the fin was clever stuff. I would never have thought of using clear plastic like that. Great conversion, watching with interest.

Yes that is excellent work. I tried the idea with the plastic sheet on My Bf109E after seeing your success with the technique. _________________ Airfix Club member |

Finished cockpit:
Fitted:
Next comes the nose! It would been easier to do this before the wings were attached I suppose.
Scanned and resized the profile from the Osprey book (1/96) and made paper template in a similar manner to the Stirling build:
I don't carve as such, but cut around the line and then slice though the waste. In this case horizontally away from the nose before cutting down from the top to remove small blocks of balsa.
The method is then repeated in the other direction, and the nose carefully sanded to shape:
Filled and primed:
Now comes the tricky bit. Deciding upon the markings to enable painting to begin _________________ Bubbly! |
