Heres my build:

Looks really nice and crisp

Big for a night fighter!!

Started straight away with dry fitting of the cockpit.

Will be doing more tonight

I love getting this headstart

The interior green is a US colour, H224(?). See my thread for "useful linkies".

I looked but just found the link to the 1/48 P-61, which shows a colour much closer to 78 then 224?
If it is another colour I will repaint.

Rather than repainting, you might give it a darker green wash. that would probably do it justice.

Fuselage halves together, wings together, slot for stand cut in, nose on fuselage and some filler on the nose joint.

Getting there!

I just realise I'm not quite doing the kit justice after looking at Brews' build

Wings on, filler in the gaps, also thought I'd better fill all the sink holes and ejection marks.

My clear parts have a knock out tab mark right in the middle of a pane. Did you fix yours?

The transparencies of all P-61 kits are problematic in one way or another. I have emailed Falcon Models to ask when they're going to make canopies for this plane. It won't hurt if there are others who would do the same.

To expand on what Ratch said, with regard to "not doing the kit justice", you're doing it fine in a different way to me. I'm attempting to make it look more accurate. If you're doing it OOB, then that's perfectly valid, and provides a "benchmark" of what can be done to make the kit look good by virtue of a decent build. In my mind, too, I'm not making it as accurate as possible, because I'm conceding limitations on reproducing certain aspects. There are others who would go much further than me.

I have only removed the transperencies from the sprue, still working out the best way to tidy them up

Unfortunately, mine had two ejector pin marks, but worse, it was about 1.5mm too wide for the fuselage.

These are my transperances,
The main one isn't to bad, the one in the rear is a bit foggy and the ejector mark is more obvious but the one in the cone is the worst.

Grey paint shows up all to well the faults in "sanded" filler

More sanding it is....

And here's a comparison to a Frog Mustang

I've also ordered Microscale sheet 72-263 1/72 P-61 Black Widows from here http://www.geocities.com/mjrudymodels/decalsetc.html?200917 for the grand total of US$6

since the kit decals were still looking fairly sad after a whole summer in the window...
