Thanks George,
Right to kick off here are the obligatory box and sprue shots
First thing was to remove the existing nose from the fuselage halves
I then turned my attentions to the cockpit, I haven't worked on 1/72 for a while so painting the pilots was a bit of a challenge. The dials are drybrused with aluminium to bring out some detail
I then continued with the construction, the fit was generally very good
I then attached the new nose to the mossie which showed the mess I made of cutting the fuselage (which is why I am scared of conversions
However with a bit of superglue as a filler mixed with flour it was soon taken care of, I then painted the seams with grey paint to check them and to my suprise the were fine.
Finally for tonight I built up the two under carriages which didnt fit together too well. Also it would be better If I could add the undercarridge later because I cant spray it now, so theres some tricky painting to do
Any comments most appreciated _________________ Cheers

Very nice work so far Daniel.
I'm yet to start on the under carriage on my Mossie so could you let me know what fit problems you had?
I found the best way to cut the nose off was to score the line that Airfix supply with a scarpel in the very centre and the nose then fit's perfectly. _________________ Cheers Glyn. |

Thanks Heinkel
Glyn,
The nose was my own stupidity because I was trying to do it with my knife which wasnt really sharp enough and then with a junior hacksaw blade and I ended up making a hash of it (I must get a razor saw ). As for the fit problems. These were with the undercarridge legs because with the two sides they are joined together at the from by a X shaped piece and at the back by the two stickout rods on each leg. I has trouble getting these to meet; however with touch of superglue to tack them in place for the liquid cement it worked out ok. To join the legs to the cowling type thing I found it best to put the pins for the legs into one side and then into the other before applying any glue as it took a bit of getting right to sit in the holes. The cowling type things went together very well with very little trouble
Hope this helps _________________ Cheers

Right time for todays progress,
First thing to do was to attatch the underside piece, this required liberal amounts of superglue to blend it in with the rest of the fuselage. I then painted it with acrylic paint to check the seams.
Next I added the undercarridge sections to the wings. Its now starting to look like a mossie
Next I masked up the canopy and attached it with some gator glue
Next I had to rescribe some panel lines that I lost during the sanding
It was now time for paint. I sprayed the green using Xtracrylic RAF Green
The green was now masked up using the bluetack worms and I sprayed the grey using Tamiya XF19 sky grey
I then masked up and sprayed the black using Tamiya XF-1 Flat black
All in all a quite productive day, just some touching up of the cammo to do then on to the finishing painting touches like the aluminium on the under carridge legs and exausts' then on to decals
Any comments most welcome _________________ Cheers

Some real progress now and she is looking good in her war paint. You did a good job on the nose too. Looking forward to seeing it with the decals in place.

Very quick, & very professional looking finish so far. You're not the first person to have trouble with Airfix mossie undercarriage; personally I think it's very badly designed... _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Thanks Michael
Right heres todays progress. I didn't get as much done today as I would have liked.
Firstly I touched up a couple of little areas where the paint came off because of the masking. Also I picked out the undercarridge areas in vallejo model air aluminium. The props were finished and added to the mossie as were the exasusts
The exausts were done using a mix of copper and gun metal with a little rust to try and get a mix that I was happy with. That said i felt that they were a bit bright as you can see in the picture below
So I gave them a wash of flat black to try and dirty them up a bit, I might give them another wash but I am quite happy how they have turned out
It really coming together now, next will be a few coats of Klear and then onto the decaling
As ususal any comments welcome _________________ Cheers
