i have a choice atm, the BR mogul or evening star, both i think being built by other members of the gb
however i am waiting on delivery of a hornby evening star, so i'm provisionally thinking of doing on of the other decal options that come with the star as a workaday 9f class

A Caprotti conversion would be brilliant - if you're feeling inspired, there are a few pictures of a Caprotti from the Dapol kit here:

feanor- i got the paint set from here-
http://www.little-cars.co.uk/pricetop.htm
at the milton keynes show earlier this year, if you scroll down the list its about halfway- ish and is selling at £17.
owen and ratch-
i think i'll leave any conversions for now, although a torpedo tube mounted under the boiler would look kinda cool!

right, whilst sorting out the parts i'm going to work on i noticed that there are two part 14's in my bag, it looks like one is a bit short shot so they've put another in the bag, thing is the damaged one doesn't seem too bad, so i've got a spare.
nice one dapol!

also the parts in mine, on closer inspection don't seem too badly warped

Ayup Phil..

You've certainly got away with that mate, but look how they've ripped it off the sprue !

The QC looks non-existent !

thats just a bit of flash that looks really bad from the angle i took the pic at.
well being something of a veteran at these kits my first move is to remove as much of the moulded on handrails and piping as i can, i have some handrail wire and metal knobs to replace it, and most of the pipework can be replaced by various diameter bits of copper wire.
sounds like a plan, yes-

this is as far as i got last night when i had a little oopsie!

this is why you should always cut away from yourself!
however no major arteries were hit so i'm back to hacking it about tonight.

had some quality modelling time yesterday (and i should have some today) so i glued some parts together after i got the boiler rails and pipes smoothed away. i've given the chassis a coat of humbrol 85 as a starting point to the real painting, plus this has shown up a few sink holes that need dealing with, no big deal mind.
and its beginning to look like a loco!-

FINISHED!-

just kidding! the hornby 9f evening star i've had on order since may was finally delivered to where i'd ordered it from by hornby (problems with their chinese manufacturers apparently-sound familiar?)

so i now have a 3d reference although there is a wicked seam line down the top of the boiler on the hornby one! i've got the boiler controls and pipework finished, but i masked it up before i took any pics so they'll be coming later.
