Back to the GB...
Main fuselage, wings and tail glued, cockpit and nose final dry fit.
And yes, it is sitting on an A3 cutting mat!
The main section joins, wing roots and engine pods especially will need a lot of TLC and the underneath is a bit untidy but I live in hope.
Big question remains, I was going to build it wheels up but the undercarriage looks so inviting, I'm very tempted to go wheels down after all.
Perhaps I should start a poll?

| Looking good Colin. It looks rather graceful on its stand so wheels up for me! |

Not happy today. Peeled some of the Tamiya tape off the cockpit glazing this afternoon and a piece of clear plastic came away with it leaving a hole and some cracks behind.
What is left has gone very brittle. I'm going to try salvaging it with Clearfix (need to get some anyway). Most of the damage will be behind the droop snoot glazing so it may not show too much, very irritating though.
I'll send an email to Airfix, see if they can send a replacement.
More later.

Repair to the glazing did not go well, may just paint it black, unless Airfix are able to come up with a replacement soon.
Moving on.
The underneath doors aren't too bad, but will need some filling
The lower main wing is in three parts. fortunately most of that main join will be hidden by the engines
Where the tail joins the main fuselage is OK underneath
But horrible on top
And don't ask about the wing root...
Let the filler begin!
More soon

Progress continues.
Managed to clean up the filler. I had another go at the glazing and decided it would be OK from a couple of feet away, so finished the fuselage. Engines are ready to be fitted after the rest of the painting is done.
Next stage will be to spray grey primer all over to see what else needs filling!

Hi Tom
34 inches long, 14.5 inches wide, on the stand it is 15 inches high to the top of the tail flying straight and level.
I don't know where I am going to put it but I am so glad that I'm building it.
Afraid to think how much paint it will need though!

No need to feel guilty Andy.
I do think it will be an impressive kit when finished though, well worth the effort. Just stick a few bits together, you know you want to!

Thanks folks.
I sprayed Halfords Grey Plastic primer all over, saw all the bad bits, filled, rubbed down, and sprayed again. Repeated three times.
This was taken just before the fourth go at primer .
So was this
After a coat or two of Halfords Appliance White it starts to look just like it did before I started painting it...
As long as she passes the three foot test I'll be happy.
Day off tomorrow, going to Wellesbourne to see XM655 belt down the runway and make a LOT OF NOISE

Hi Tom
It had a few more coats of paint on Thursday. Airfix kindly sent me a replacement set of clear parts this morning so I might be replacing that, then some touch ups, several coats of clear, then several more!
I'm hoping to finish it next weekend.

A couple of coats of paint later and engines now on. The engines are made in three parts from different types of plastic, the tail pipes will need glueing again as ordinary poly cement won't hold them.
The engine fit generally is poor. If I was starting again I would assemble the whole kit, everything, the whole thing, before painting, then fill, then fill some more, then prime, then fill, then paint everything white.
Lots klear next, then transfers.
Still pleased to be building it though!

Odd thing is some sections are glossy white, some are matt and rough.
Everything will get a gentle rub with wet and dry followed by a dunking in klear.

One week later...
Engines have been refixed with superglue, lots of filler applied, more white paint. Nearly finished then i spilt thinners on the cockpit glazing, oh dear.
Old glazing has been removed, new glazing dunked in Klear. I've also filled (I kid you not) the stand and applied the first coat of paint.
More news next week.

Replacement glazing is now in, but it seems very easy to mark. More filling and rubbing down today but all being well Saturday will see the final coats of paint being applied.
