Never got round to starting this. The box is out and the kit will be done and it will be recorded in here - but there were too many other things taking our time that starting that biggie just wasn't feasible. However, the threads do stay open so it will definitely happen

...started!...

Now that Paula's Herc is done, we have space in our modelling room to begin this beastie.

Had a good peruse of Colin's build and now started priming some of the areas that need to be set out white but are not external, such as the air intakes, as we'll have an airbrushing sesh soon. Also, some of the gunmetal parts have been painted, too.

Started building the stand as, like Colin's machine, it'll be modelled gear up.

Haven't started on the cockpit yet.

Not worth photographing yet but will do.

Not yet finally decided which scheme to do - it may be the new "Admiral's Flagloft" scheme or else it'll be BA Negus (see Dan's Tristar) but it won't be the boring '80s and 90s scheme.

Well done folks!

I'm sure you will fare better than I did, but it is worth the effort. Mine was at the IPMS Farnborough show today and got a lot of attention.

Good-oh - I'm sure it's glorious when it's finished. You do deserve a medal for persevering through your build after some of the problems that you had. It's good to be able to take the benefit of your experience and thatks for that - no doubt we'll create problems of our own!

Second coat of primer has gone on to the engine intakes and other odd bits and pieces. Cockpit painiting has now also been started.

Still haven't got any photos to post, but it is progressing.

The cockpit is built, (with thanks to ColinM's thread the engineer's panel has been moved back).

The white parts of the engines are all primed and ready for spraying white.

We've also started to paint the landing gear.

Well, we've now got some photos to show our progress.

Firstly, we got the main fuselage barrel together:

We've got tape holding it together while the glue dries, and it looks like there's a ridge that'll need sanding back.

The cockpit is now built, decalled and installed, so that's looking good too.  The main panel needed trimming so that it didn't foul the glazing. (again as ColinM discovered!)

We're now working on the nose assembly, and we've got the airbrush out so we're getting the engine parts sprayed white.

Well, this has come along in leaps and bounds today!

As well as what we posted earlier, we've now also built the tail assembly:

It'll probaby need a bit of work to tidy it up, but generally this bit isn't too bad.

But we've also been trying to get the nose assembly together.  We attached the brittle transparent mechnanism for the nose visor and then tried to start putting it in place.  I should say at this point that we have the intention of building this with everything hangin out, flaps down and nose down with visor extended as if it's coming into land, although it'll still be mounted on its stand.  Whilst trying to fiddle with the visor, we managed to snap completely one of the mountings, which has taken some fixing with super glue

What we need to do now is to have a look at how the droop snoot will work, and fix everything definitively in position.  Once that's done we can carry on with the forward fuselage assembly.  It's also looking like we're going to have the get the glazing marked now, as it doesn't look like we'll be able to do this once the assembly is complete.

Wish us luck!

Paula

Well, we haven't sorted out the nose yet Nailbiting - but that will come with time!

We've attached the tail section to the fuselage, and we've had the same problem as ColinM!  It's been sanded to such an extent the plastic is now almost transparent!  It's now been filled, and needs resanding, but that should be a much easier job.

We've also got the engines (almost) built:

The landing gear is also largely built, so it is coming along nicely.

Good luck both, the nose drove me mad, and that was doing it in flight mode!

That nose      You aren't wrong, Colin!!!!

Right, don't worry, Baldrick has a cunning plan! First up, get the cockpit section onto the aircraft. Done that bit:

From here, we're going to construct the nosecone and visor separately and then attach it later on, completely, totally and utterly ignoring the Airfix mechanism and utterly disregardng the instructions. In other words, we're going to bodge the nose together towards the end of the construction phase.

Paula's built the landing gear legs, which have metal pins inside to provide enough support should you actually want to stand the thing on its gear (sorry for the background):

Then, the nose gear bay and tailbumper bay were primed in H64 and painted with the first coat of H81, using the acrylic potlet supplied - which actually seems to work quite well. But boy, check out that gap!!! Still, with all my practice on the Valkyrie, I'm starting to know how to fill and sand now.

I have to admit, though, that Paula has been making most of the progress on this kit (although 'twas I that got the main sections together) purely by virtue of her being on maternity leave.

Hi Both

If ever a nose needed bodging, this is the one!

Speaking of sanding and filling, have you offered the wings to the fuse yet?

The one redeeming feature of this kit is that when it is finished, it really does look the business. I hated it when I was building mine, but it I'm so glad I persevered.

Good luck!

Colin

Only just!!!  I know we've been quiet on this front for a while, but I think you can understand why!

While Thomas is asleep we've managed to get the tops of the wings on.  The port wing seems to be a fairly good fit, the tape is simply to save us holding it together till the glue dries!

The starboard wing is a whole other issue with a gap all along the wing root!

Next step is the lower part of the wings  Nailbiting
