Well, now we're back, I can make a start on this!

Here's the standard shots, the sprues and the instructions:

At first inspection it seems to be okay, with no obvious sink marks or anything like that to worry about, but we'll see.

We had one of these when I were a nipper. All white with black vinyl insides. Eventually the engine block cracked and it had to be scrapped. Lovely looker, though, and 30 years on I still drive a Triumph.

Well, I've made a good start on this one.  I've got the chassis almost complete, it's just waiting on the engine which is only half painted at the moment and the drive shaft.

The instructions don't give much indication about colour, so I've sort of made it up as I went along!  The only thing I do know is that the seats are red, so I'm still trying to decide what colour to do the rest of the interior!

Are you doing the body in a single colour or two-tone like the red and white one on the old box lid?

I'm going to try and do it two tone red and white, but I need some better photos of it!

Have you tried the owners' clubs? Their websites are usually stuffed with photos of pristine examples, though you usually have to register (the more registered members, the cheaper the insurance deal they can get).

IIRC, almost all Triumphs' upholstery was the same colour as the carpets, or near enough. Headlining was always cream or offwhite. Wooden veneered dashes were a nutty dark brown that quickly went orange. Any black vinyl, like atop the dash, faded to a dark grey equally quickly.

I don't know if these pics are any good to you but this is the one I did a few years back. Despite people saying start with the light colour first, I found it easier to do the red then mask it out for the white.

Cheers!

Thanks BAC, that looks great.  If mine turns out half as good as yours I'll be pleased!

I've got the engine more or less painted now, so it is progressing.

Well, I've got the chassis more or less built now, it just needs the wheels on:

I've also now started priming the body, this is it's first coat of Revell grey:

I've got the underside finished now, and three of the wheels turn - not bad for me!

I'm now painting the wheel centres red before I add the hubcaps.

I've also started on the body shell, it's been sprayed white all over, as I thought it would be easier doing it this way than by taping it off then spraying it.

Next step is getting the interior done, which I'll do red, as beaufighter suggested earlier.

I haven't got any more pics to post at the moment, but the body shell is now nicely white, so I'm working on the interior, and I've added the seats to the chassis.

I'll try and post some pics a bit later,

Paula

As promised, here's a photo of the progress I've made.

Here's the chassis with the seats, handbrake and gearstick:

Next step is getting the body painted.

As I sprayed the entire body white, the Revell red has taken 4 coats to get a decent cover.  I've done the roof and sides separately to try and keep straight lines.

The bottom half of the body has only had one coat of red so far, so another three to go!

Well, as predicted it took 4 coats of red to get the sides looking good too.

Here it is dry fitted on the chassis.

I'm pleased with the way it's come out so far!

So, I've added the bits and bobs under the bonnet, and started to paint the headlining.

This one isn't far off being finished now!

Nice paintwork. Don't forget that, as it was made from vinyl, the upholstery and door coverings would typically be slightly shiny, whereas the carpets would be dead flat.

Another Triumph point to note is that regardless of other trim colours, certain bits of the inside were always black.

This Herald has black trim and a black dash, while this one has red upholstery but still has a black dash.

This set of red carpets shows the black scuff pad under the pedals. The red door liners would have been vinyl like the seats.
