I am progressing with this.
I've got the headlights and dry brushing on the bonnet:
the windows are in (which wasn't easy!), the door handles etc. on, but the dry brushing still needs doing:
I've also Kleared the seats to try and create a "vinyl" look.

Looking really good.
Re: dashboards, IIRC a good many examples I saw owned by members of the Triumph Sports Six Club had wooden dashboards, as did my Mk3 Spitfire.
Aye

OK I had one of these as my first car....and I still remember it almost inside out!
The bulkhead behind the engine should be the main body colour, in this case red. The engine block should be gloss black with an orange/copper rocker cover. The brake and clutch master cylinders were alluminium with a black rubber lower 'boot'. The dynamo was originally black, as I think was the air cleaner for the carb' (most were sprayed silver in private hands as time went by). The heater was semi-gloss black and the windscreen wiper motor was black with an alluminium top section. The gearbox/clutch bellhousing was alluminium, the drive shaft was steel, the rear axle was black along with the transverse spring and most of the front and rear suspension components. The chassis was black too. As far as the under body is concerned I can't be accurate as most of them had rusted away by 1980, so you could assume they were also the body colour with little or no rust prevention!!!!!
The dashboards on Heralds were wood (apart from the first 948cc models which were made from a terrible compressed cardboard!). The interior was shiny vinyl which varied quite a lot in colour from memory. Mine was blue. The inside tops of the doors were the same colour as the main body. The roof lining was an 'off white' vinyl as were the visors. The rear view mirror had a dark grey body. The exhaust system was steel but it was painted dark grey.
Any more questions? I will try to remember.
OH! I just remembered more stuff..the original carpets were moulded to the shape of the floorpan and were a very 'hard' twist pile, almost always a horrible dark grey that faded badly. The gear shift boot was black rubber, the stick itself was shiny steel with a black knob. The steering wheel was semi-gloss black. The top of the dash board was shiny black vinyl. The door handles were chrome as was the window winder which had a shiny black plastic handle.
OMG I want another Herald! |
