I will be building the 92-94 reissue of Italeri’s 1/24 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.

My model will be this lovely car:

My initial impression with it, is a good kit with nice and crisp details.
There is just a little flash, and a few sink marks, but nothing to worry about.

Can't wait to see this - one of the most beautiful cars ever designed!

You are so right, Dan; but I would have a really hard time to choose between the:

Ferrari 250 GTO
Aston Martin DB5
Mercedes 300SL Gullwing
Jaguar E

Give me any and you’ll have a friend for life.

Does anyone have a good suggestion on the colour I’m going to paint it?

I don’t want to paint it any metallic since it will be with brush, and I’m not so hot on red.
I was thinking something like cream or pale blue.

I was once stuck in traffic on the M25 some years ago, alongside me in the queue was, I am sure, Rowan Atkinson, in a Ferrari Costalotta, in an immaculate British Racing Green finish with cream leather interior.

If I could ever afford a Gullwing, a similar scheme would be my choice.

But it's built by the Boche!

Anyone caught painting foreign muck cars in British Racing Green should be deported on principal, in my opinion!

All the best

What about this...

I think a nice midnight blue would look great in that car, I'm sure I've seen a picture somewhere in that colour.

Now for a crime of those proportions it would be straight out the back and a bill to the relatives for the bullet!

Go for a spray can of Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminium - honestly, you'll be very pleased with the results.  I did this with the DB5 and it really did come up well - no orange peel and no expertise in spraying required.  Can't lose!

Now that sounds like the right colour for a Mercedes!

Thanks to all of you.

Unfortunately I can’t do anything this weekend due to my mother in law 70’Th birthday, but you all gave me something to think about.

I can say, it won’t be racing green since I agree only British cars should be allowed this colour.
And camouflage is not on my list either.

But medium or midnight blue would be a good choice I think.

Oh yes, that's the idea - looks great with the red interior too.

Thanks, Ratch

I have a Humbrol blue-green #? I think will be perfect.
Used it before on a motorcycle, and know it can be polished to be super-shiny.

I have painted the chassis frame Polished Aluminium with highlights of Chrome.
Made most of the motor, and being inspired by  Bob(K) and his Alfa Romeo, I have lost one of the pieces from the exhaust system.
I’m going to make a new one from sprue or wire.

The seats and the rest of the inside is done in Bloode Red from Model Master.

I have painted the body 1’st cote of Humbrol HR135 a nice non metallic deep blue-green colour.
Funny enough, conversion tables I have seen, converts it to Humbrol 52 Metallic Baltic Blue, a colour really far from my HR135 tin.

Photos will follow soon.

I have just finished the 2'nd layer of body paint.
If it dries smoothly without too many streaks, I think its time to let it dry a week or so before I try any polishing.

The aluminium frame needs a lot of shading; it looks rather dull at the moment.

Nice work so far. I like the colour of the bodywork.

Very nice job there. Very nice - I must admit - I was skeptical about the colour but it's turned out exceptionally well.
