Nigel
That's a very kind. I will persevere with the kit parts for the time being and see how they work out. If it doesn't I may well take you up on your offer.

Painted those areas that will be inaccessible once the mudguards and wheels are in place:

The rear suspension is in place and once again the areas that will be masked by the mudguards have been painted.
The next task will be to fit the mudguards and wheels and the kit will be on the way towards completion.

Good to see you haven't let Heller's poor moulding put you off. I wonder if the Haldane Place kits were moulded any better?

I didn't realise it was a Heller original. It is certainly a challenge and every step has required a fair bit of sanding, cutting and drilling.

As far as I know it is an original Airfix 1969 kit.
I think Frogman was referring to a specific period in time when Airfix kits was produced in France.
I have seen some really ugly examples of the ‘Heller treatment’.
Heller kits from the same period had better plastic and the tools weren’t tortured like some of the Airfix tools.

Just to let you know I am still plodding along with this kit. I have now attached the mudguards, and have almost completed all the body work, including the painting. I have started the driver and passenger figures. The only problem is I am working abroard at the moment, and although I have the Alfa with me, I cannot access photobucket to attach the pictures. As soon as I can I will post the progress report. I know I am late, but i will get there.

Well I am now able to post a progress report and the car is finally finished. Here are the last photographs during construction and the completed car.
Having fixed in place the mud guards, which was an effort and required me to rebuild one of the supports, which I broke, I painted the whole body and added the hood:
The next task was to paint the driver and passenger and I gave them a sort of 1930s look:
They were then placed in the vehicle. It was here that I noticed that the clear windscreen in the kit was malformed and I had ruined it with glue, so I made my own windscreen out of scrap and clear plastic:
And so it was just a case of adding the wheels, the odd details like number plates etc and she was finished...better late than never:
and she drives off into the sunset....
Verdict: The first Airfix car I have built and maybe the last. This kit was a challenge from start to finish, part due to my hamfistedness and part due to poor moulding. It is one of the harder kits I have built which required every form of modelling technique to create a reasonable result. Maybe I will build another car in the future, but not for a while. Thanks to Paul & Dan for this GB as the Alfa would still be up in the attic if you had not suggested it!
