I shall be building the following
1/72 FW190 F-8
1/72 FW190 D-9
and the 1/48 FW 190A-8.
Should keep me busy for a while.

The 1/72 kits I shall be building.
The new starter kit box is glued all the way round so you have to rip open the bottom of the box to get to the contents!

That's not so good, the kit could get damaged if the box should get opened a bit "over enthusiastically"!
How do the decals look? Are they an improvement on earlier Hornby efforts. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

| Is the smaller number of parts in the newer one just because it's a starter kit or is that the norm now, or is it just an optical illusion and they're the same? |

The starter kit has fewer parts because you can only build the D-9 version.
With the older boxing there are parts to make up the A-8 a ground attack variant with bombs etc or the fighter variant. There are different canopies as well.
Currently the only models off the shelf are the 1/72 FW190D-9 in starter kit form or not and the 1/24 mega beast. The 1/72 A version is boxed as part of the FW Mistel kit package.
All of them are easily available second hand. |

They're two different kits, Tom. The A-8/F-8 dates from 1976, and the D-9 from 1978. Even when first released, you could only ever build the D-9 from the D kit, unless you were a masochist, in which case you could build a D-11, D-12, Ta 152H etc _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

| I know. I assumed that the cosh also knew that they were different kits and was explaining the difference why there are more sprues in the A/F 8 than the D9 |

Also, the D-9 was always Series 1, whereas the A-8/F-8 was always Series 2.
Edit: I stand corrected ... it came out in 1978, apparently (I can't believe I got that wrong ) and it was originally Series 3, apparently. Oh, the memory fade ...

My post has been hijacked by a series 1 or 2 or 3 debate
Brews stop typing and get building, there's still under a month to go until we start. Time enough to get a series of your choice |

Yep, cheers. I don't know why I didn't think of variant types. |

The decals with my 1/72 Fw190a-8/F-8 are a bit delicate and unuseable.
Has anybody got a 1/72 A-8 or F-8 decal set going spare? Does'nt matter if its from the Airfix kit or another manufactuer.
Thanks |

Put them in a sunny window and they'll look like new after a week or two. _________________ Cheers, Jan
