Hi Ratch, Ian

The sprues are identical to TimJ's. The copyright claim on the box is Airfix's, instructions (which match the sprues) printed and product made in England so it says. I wonder if Lesney did some moulding for Airfix back then before going bust (according to Wikipedia) in 1982 and being bought up by Universal Holdings/Universal Toys.

 others here will know better I'm sure. I'll just keep feeding the carpet monster.

Aye
Chris

I wonder whether the original content of your box has been swapped

Perhaps they outsourced part of the production run?

Straight off the instruction sheet: (Airfix) Slate Grey M2 on Light Aircraft Grey M13. I've used Hu 64 for the M13, but Hu 31 is much more green than I expected. I guess I want Hu 27 ("Sea Grey") which I don't have. Revell  M57 might do, else either Hu 123 or 164.

Having gone with the Hellgrau for the undersides doesn't help, it's darker than the Hu 64. A rethink might be in order

......and here's an old tin of something called Humbrol 92 which looks as if it might be helpful.....

Its probably a bit late now but some IPA on a bit of kitchen roll will remove any of the glue residue on the canopy

Thanks Daniel, I used toothpaste and I've put the IPA in the fridge!

Colour scheme is now Humbrol HG3 Hellgrau 76 for undersides, Hu 92 on Hu 31 topsides.

It's a bit like 74/75 over 76 but on a late winter afternoon.

I'm struggling to identify the scheme they're trying to replicate

During the French campaign & BoB, fighter schemes were generally (but not all) RLM 70 & 02 over 65

1941 - 44 = 74 / 75 / 76

1944 - 45 variations of
81 / 82 / 76
82 / 83 / 76
82 / 83 + 84 (speculatory) over a light green-grey

Nearest Humbrol straight from the tinlets are
02 = Hu: 92 Matt Iron Grey
65 = Hu: 23 Matt Duck Egg Blue or Hu: 65 Matt Aircraft Blue
70 = Hu: 75 Matt Bronze Green or Hu: 91 Matt Black Green
74 = Hu: 27 Matt Sea Grey or Hu: 67 Matt Tank Grey
75 = Hu: 106 Matt Ocean Grey
76 = Hu: 147 Matt Light Grey
81 = Hu: 155 Matt Olive Drab
82 = Hu: 2 Gloss Emerald or Hu: 80 Matt Grass Green
83 = Hu: 30 Matt Dark Green or Hu: 163 Satin Dark Green
84 = can't find one on my charts

Thanks Ratch, your post crossed with mine.

I think I'm going to live with what I've got now, and resolve to plan a head a bit more next time!

Thanks guys. I was almost taking myself seriously yesterday but this morning is a bright new day and I can see this machine turning out ok even if the colour scheme isn't authentic!

I seem to have spent most of the day sanding, cleaning, touching up, and watching paint/varnish dry.

Nett progress is a coat of matt varnish (mainly to even the finish out and improve transfer adhesion) and some rather yellowed transfers:

Still to do:

Sort retracted undercarriage parts
Polish canopy (again! uPVC restorer is working quite well though)
Final (I hope) touching in
One, perhaps two, coats satin varnish (which I hope will also improve the appearance of the markings)
Rig aerial
Some (but not much) weathering, to include sooted opening (thanks peebeep!)
Load up with HE
Find a T34 or two!

Aye,
Chris

Nice work. Shame about the transfers, mine were in a similar condition.

Good paint and motteling effect but you should have put out an SOS for your decals and asked if anybody had any spare going
