Well, just a tinker with the dash board at this stage - and spraying the engine sprue Aluminium (Tamiya TS-17)
I'll apply some tamiya smoke to get some shading on the dash. I started to assemble the main components of the engine block too. Here are some 6 components - still needs trimming and sanding etc but fits well.

Well, that is the Airfix motto...!
Tonight has literally been using black to do minor engine and dash details..... also painted the flywheel and a somewhat dirty clutch plate.
while drying I managed to put together the blower as well ... which is also now drying while I type. So progress.... also the most building I've done in quite a while. Simple glue A to B stuff.
Quick spray of Tamiya Gloss Aluminium - detailing can be done later to bring out depth with Tamiya Smoke.

Coming on nicely. It is amazing how, with a bit of neat painting, those engine parts look like heavy lumps of metal. Lovely job on the dash board too.

Ayup HT...
Did you thin the Smoke with Tamiya thinners? I've never got on with the stuff and may have 'Forgotten' to do this... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

No - just straight on - I needed a thicker effect to give it more depth - though I did wipe off the excess with a cotton bud with IPA (Iso Alocohol) on it.
Finally completed steps 1 - 6 (of 38) so the engine and blower are mostly complete now (from what I see)
This was before all the extras went on the engine - blower here complete (with washing)
Shot of complete engine unit after washing applied and assembly. Minor trimming and sanding to be finalised.
Complete unit
Looks to be the petrol tank and chassis next. Looks like a long build! _________________ the evolution of the modern car is such it now ressembles a toaster. |

Cheers, just chipping away at this - each part being slowly glued and sanded.... and we should have a sanding icon....
Anyway, next step is the assembly off the petrol tank - very straightforwarded though small gaps etc need to be filled. This will need to be primed and given the car colour.
Before continuing - sprue shots - and with what will eventually resemble a car.
After the petrol tank is the chassis assembly - I'll assemble this and prime in one hit being painting . So... up to step 9

well, just put foot outside and it pours down - so back inside and on with the kit...
Only did 2 and a bit more steps but while the chassis was glued (6 parts with 4 being crossmembers) work continued on. Steps 10 and 11 are the seat assemblies - these need painting first though. The seats themselves are a very close match and there's fine recess lines where the leather depressions are. I wanted to bring out this detail but not over do it. So - original seats (close to original colour too)
Seats were oversprayed with olive drab - odd choice but method in my madness. It's not too dark and it's enough to give a darker green to recessed lines.
Not the best part - using a fine (1200) grit paper the surface was buffed off - leaving a 2 tone colour bringing out seat depth and detail. The rest of the seat backs with be done in a similar manner.
The gearbox and axle (step 12). The great news about the gearbox is it's simple. Glue 3 parts, sanding only (no filling!) and then spray with Tamiya Gloss Aluminium - dries quickly with a nice finish. The axle is 2 parts glued together and the driveshaft only needs the couplings added.
Work on the axle is nice - good fit and easy to remove the seam lines. A quick spray with gloss black (from a can again - makes work alot easier with a kit this size) - this was then lightly overspayed with brushing of a light gray. This was then buffed with some Neopol and a shoe brush to blend in even more giving a distinctly grimy/dusty look.
Well, given this a good going over and 1/3 the way there (phew). Spent quite a bit of time on this lately so will give a rest over next couple of days. Also need to get some paint for the chassis/bodywork. Sunlight yellow. _________________ the evolution of the modern car is such it now ressembles a toaster. |

Ian, your seats
I get the bit about rubbing back the paintwork to give tonal variation but how many colours did you apply before rubbing back (you only mention the olive) _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Coming along well.
Always wondered what one of these kits might look like built up.
