Fellow members, it is with great sadness that I must report the demise of DavidM, a well-respected member of this site
I had noticed his absence, but put it down to holiday or such-like. Tonight I received this e-mail
| Quote: | Forgive me for getting in touch this way and so late with regard to the information that I have to impart. On June 8th my brother sadly passed away after an illness, and since then I have been trying to trace his virtual footsteps to check that all who 'knew' him are informed. He was a keen modeller, and I believe that he was a user of your site, and went under the username of DavidM.
I am certain that DavidM was my brother: archaeologist; from south wales; brother in Gosport (me); worked at Fishbourne so I was wondering if you could check any email address you may have on record. If it does turn out that I have identified the correct person then i am sorry to have taken so long to let you know, but I was unsure if he even was a member and if so what username he used - he was Drader on some sites.
I am currently working through what he left in the way of models (completed, started and in the box), books and about 14ft of magazines, a problem compounded by him being spread across 3 addresses. When I have an idea what there is we will start to dispose of it through the forums.
A few links to obituaries on my brother on other sites:

Very sad news, RIP David.
David lived within shouting distance of my place but we never got the chance to meet up, an opportunity missed.

I add my condolances to those above. I will miss his educated comments, and complete knowledge of all things tracked, especially.
I recall his last message on May 28, (my nephew's birthday) was about receiving some brass ammunition for a Dragon 1:35 JSU-122 / 152.
Miss you already, David! _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

It appears my brother will be missed all over the internet, and the sad thing is he'd never have believed it. Sorry for the 'odd' introduction, I'll post a more formal one if I have a chance, but I was unsure if David was a member, hence the delay and the slightly cryptic email. Thank you all for your kind words, some of the comments from the other forums were read at his funeral to prove to him that he would be missed, and I'm sorry this forum was missed out. I'm currently dealing with his 'archive', magazines first...

So sorry to hear of this loss- especially as he was an archaeologist. I did like the comments about Time Team and going off to France until they had left. Been there- got the tee shirt etc.
Stu- rather sad |

He wasn't the only archaeologist in the family, though he was the only practising one. I dug with Phil Harding at Wessex before Time Team existed

That site worked out as 6kms of putting grass green side up again after a machine had removed it and we had looked underneath. All with frequent visits from the farmer (who didn't want us there) with his... manure spreader. The glamour of contract archaeology in the UK.

That is such awful news. My condolences too Richard. Your brother was such an nice bloke, very helpful and knowledgeable
I'm not sure if I've still got my fossil PS/2 controller, but I shall always remember the way David gently put me in my place about the 'axe head' that I'd found, whilst still managing to imply that I was a bit of a plonker (he was right, of course!) _________________ Cheers,
