To my knowledge: none specifically for the Stirling...... unless Falcon do it in one of their Canopy kits.

The kit itself is a straight forward build, even the undercarriage which looks like it should be an absolute stinker.

The changes are only minor.

I'll leave you alone now Sarge.

I have an Airfix Tempest V that has been in my stash for several years. Would it be an acceptable build for this GB? I read on line that the Mk V did not appear until September 1944. Is that correct? I would be grateful for guidance as I don't want to start it and find it is not a valid subject for the GB.

Thanks

There is no doubt that the Tempest is qualified for this GB.  They were operational from April 1944 and operated shipping protection patrols on D-Day.

Quoting form wikipedia;

Quote:
Tempest V in combat

The Tempest V was in the hands of operational squadrons by April 1944; 3 Squadron was the first to be fully equipped, closely followed by 486 (NZ) Squadron (the only non-RAF unit to be equipped with the Tempest during the Second World War). A third unit - 56 Squadron - initially kept its Typhoons and was then temporarily equipped wth Spitfire Vbs until sufficient supplies of Tempests were available.

By the end of April 1944, these units were based at RAF Newchurch a new "Advanced Landing Ground" (ALG), where they formed No. 150 Wing RAF, under the command of Wing Commander Roland Beamont.

Most of the initial operations carried out comprised high altitude fighter sweeps, offensive operations known as "Rangers" (long-range sorties inside enemy territory, specifically to attack ground vehicles) and anti-shipping reconnaissance.

Picture link.
Picture of Early production Tempest V of 486 Sqn. April 1944. JN766 still has factory applied black and white Typhoon style underwing recognition bands.

So I 'd say that if you did the model as representative of one from these squadrons it could be built as part of the GB.

The Airfix Tempest (or at least the newer one) has the markings for Beamonts mount, which calls for full invasion stripes. So if you have those decal options, you could be it OOB

Looking at the build threads it seems that nobody is doing anything German yet, how unusual is that?

There are only fifteen of us. Not surprising that we would choose subjects used by our own countries. More than half seem to be aircraft . . . D-Day and immediately after were a might lopsided in the air. There's 'Pips' Priller and his wing-man against the (and if not THE, then one of the) largest air forces in history.

If you want the largest dogfight in history, then I think we could have an "Above Dieppe" GB. More German subject matter there.
