I have a question: Airfix do not make a p51c but i have an acadamy one, can i use the fuselage of the acadamy one but use the remainder of an airfix p-51d type?

Not really, the 'D' wing has a different leading edge root fillet. Airfix did a perfectly acceptable P-51B, which to all intents and purposes is externally identical to the P-51C. You can still find them easily if you shop around.

IIRC the Airfix P-51B kit was a tad nicer than their P-51D and featured (in the original issue at least) an aircraft with invasion stripes.

For what it's worth

There is one on eBay now:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERB-1988...3A2%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

The asking price is ridiculous, but a reasonable offer might be accepted.

Here is a more reasonable starting price for an Airfix 1/72 P-51B:

All you'd need really is a 'Malcolm' hood.

Remember HT that the P-51B and C were both designated as Mustang IIIs by the RAF

Plenty in service without Malcolm hoods,  assuming your doing an USAAF machine.   Only a few without in RAF service in NWE.

Aeroclub do a P.51B canopy but it is not clear whether it is a Malcolm hood or not.     Might be worth a call.

Nice to see the completed builds in the gallery, only a couple more weeks of the GB remaining though!

King kit have the Airfix kit listed at £3.99.

I picked up one of these at the Hendon show for the same price and there were two kits in the box when I opened it   but only one canopy   .

It is a very nice kit and worth picking up, to replace the missing canopy I aim to either buy a vac form one or check the Revell examples I have in case there is a spare included.

Cheers

Well the campaign GB has drawn to a close, congratulations and thanks to all those who are taking part and have produced some fine models. The GB is now in the Plus section, so everyone can still carry on working on their uncompleted kits. I'm sure we all look forward to seeing them completed in the coming months.
