It is starting to look like a Spitfire, but the kit is showing its age. The tail wings and canopy are now in place. The canopy is a poor fit and there is a gap where the port main wing meets the fuselage. Some filling has been done, which will have to be sanded away before further work can be done:

Latest progress report: The building is complete less the undercarriage:

On seeing the photographs I noticed that the propeller is sitting at a strange angle. That will have to come of and the nose will need some more sanding to correct this.

Bit of progress today. I have started the painting.  I thought I would kick off with the stripes and build the colours up from there. So first up some white bands with added masking tape:

Then the black is added and a coat of overall ocean grey:

This followed by camouflage green stripes:

And then the masking tape is removed:

There is a fair bit of tidying up to do, which will be followed by the underside.

Quick update. This project is on hold for the time being. I am working overseas, but should be back in 3 weeks or so. I will finish this off on my return, although I have missed the GB deadline.

Stripy Spitfire Goodness!

While I can't wait for the new Mk.IX kit, the old one still looks pretty damned good if you squint at it a bit!

All the best

Nice work on the stripes

And I think as long as you make a start before the deadline it's all good

Back home now, so I can continue with this little kit. The undersides have now been painted light grey and invasion stripes added:

That's the basic paintwork done. Now to tidy up, particularly on the stripes, and then prepare for the first layer of gloss clear.

Don`t worry about the stripes.   Lots of the real ones were anything but nice straight lines.

Finished at last. A good tidy up and a coat of Clear Gloss. I then added the Decals, which were by Barracuda and represent a Spitfire MK IX in 1944 from 412 Sqn RCAF:

Although late for the GB, it was a fun kit to build, but it is showing its age. I look forward to the new MK IX from Airfix, which should be released soon.
