That looks brilliant.
I fancy doing a 109 now. _________________ And so it began... |

That's a fine build of this old kit. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

I am now building two Typhoons from different boxings. These will be to as near to production standard as I can get them without suffering from AMS.
The first boxing is number 61027-0 with no information as to where or when it was produced.
The second one is number 9 61027 which was made in France and is marked (C) CPG Products Corp. 1982. (It cost £1-15 reduced to 75p by the LMS that I obtained it in).
In the second one an attempt has been made to fill the massive sink hole on the port side of the upper nose and also the slot for the stand, incidently neither kit contained a stand.
A view of the Airfix parts followed by the Aeroclub replacements I will be using.
They will both be built with a 3 blade prop and with the small tailplanes. (All the 4 blade prop aircraft had the larger Tempest type tailplanes as did roughly 150 - 180 of 3 blade ones).
The blisters above the wing were removed as they are not accurate for any Typhoon and the bomb racks were also removed. The base plates around the exausts were removed as they don`t seem to have been fitted to those in service in Summer 1944.
The rear of the intake fairing was opened up and a piece of plastic card fitted to extend the lower part of the fuselage. _________________ Roger. |

The cannon ports were moved outboard to the correct although I did not try to move the u/c location points. New upper wing blistered were added and sanded to shape.
A fairing was added to the back of the engine intake (made from a piece of plastic tube cut to shape).
The fish plates around the rear fuselage (a must for almost all Typhoons) were made from Evergreen strip and sanded almost flush.
The top of nose in front of the cockpit had some Milliput applied and then sanded to reprofile the shape (see the Typhoon GB in 2007).
Some detailing of the undercarriage bays was done and then they were boxed in. Some frame work was also added to the cockpit.
The Aeroclub canopy was added and it was camoflaged using Xtracrylic paints. Black and White ID markings were added for the July 1944 peroid.

Finally finished. This has been a protracted build, taking well over a month. To many calls on my time meant that some weeks I was only getting part of one evening a week at it. The second one will have to wait until I get back from holiday in Canada.
The weaponry came from the Mosquito in my ATF 3rd Anniversary GB and the fuel tank from an Airfix Hurricane kit. Decals came from the kit and various Modeldecals sheets.
The aircraft depicted is JR446 from 164 Squadron.
It was lost at approx 2155 on the evening of the 26th of July when, flown by F/S A H Rowley, it force landed near Caen having been hit by flak during an attack by 164 and 609 Squadrons on tanks of the 21st Panzer Division who were trying to form up for an attack. This was aborted following the air strike. _________________ Roger. |

Only a month?! Nice work and the Aeroclub parts look well worth while, it would have saved me a lot of trouble if I had bought a set. I think you're right to skip attempting to move the U/C location, it would be a lot of work for something that very few people would notice.

This is a build that slipped under my radar. Thanks for pointing me in its direction. I like the colours of the green and greys Look forward to meeting you again at Telford! _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |
