Me too.....I've got an Airfix Horsa ready to go too.
Is there any chance of a diagram of exactly how Horsa and Sterling were connected prior to take-off?
I'm sure this combination will be a popular subject in the future.....Bravo to Heritage for bringing it to us!
All the best

| Not sure about details but I seem to remember that the towing arrangement was different for the Mk1 and Mk2 Horsa's . The towing aircraft end may have been the same but the glider end was different , was one a nose hitch and the other off two points on the leading edge of the wing ? |

hello all again, the best pic / diagram i have seen of hitching up to the stirling is a diorama made by DIVERSE IMAGES
their web is
http://www.pewteraircraft.com/STR...%20ASSAULT/Airborne%20Assault.htm
i will have to look through my libary to see if i have some of the actual flight lines however i dont know if i am allowed to post some of them as i can not remember where i found them all.
catch you all later

The tow rope arrangements on the Horsa changed between the 2 marks.
The attached image is of the Horsa Mk I centre section main spar (you are looking at the aft face) on either end are the two tow release units for the biforcated tow line whilst hovering behind the starboard one is the small fairing that covered it (not depicted on the Airfix model)
The Mk II with its hinged nose and twin wheeled nose gear had a single tow point at the top of the nose gear strut and therefore a simpler tow line.
As an aside the tow releases on the glider were the same design as those on the tug, manufactured by R Malcolm Ltd, Slough who also produced the bubble cockpit hoods for Spitfires and Mustangs |

Looks cool for you scratch-builder types.....Personally I'll wait for the Heritage Aviation version to appear (allegedly it will have bells and whistles)!

|
|
Hi All,
Has anyone had any luck bringing all these different threads together that tell us how to do all the finite changes to the lovable Airfix Stirling? I am finding precious little out there. Any better luck here?
I have the vac-formed nose available and would love to give the rest of the conversions a whirl.
Please advise..
Thanks in advance,
Allan |

I think he means threads of information, as opposed to separate threads within the forum boss. _________________ Bubbly! |

I have to say that's a lovely piece of work Ian.
Certainly easier than my 'old-school' or the Magna full fuselage (?) alternative. _________________ Bubbly! |
