Posted: Fri 05 Jan 2007 14:41 pm Post subject: ATF Charity Fundraising 2007 - Charity Nominations |
|
|
In November 2006 I posted a timetable for the ATF Charity Fundraising 2007. There are five stages -
Nomination of Charities
Polling of Charities nominated above
Donations and pledges of prizes
Selling of tickets
Raffle Draw
It is now time for the forum members to take part in the first stage - nominating charities. The selection of charities will be different this year in that rather than one charity, there will be four with an international charity receiving a larger share (40%) than each of the others. There are four charities and the categories are:
An International charity (such as Red Cross) - (40%)
A UK Children's charity (such as Starlight, Save the Children) - (20%)
A UK non-Children charity (such as Cancer Research UK) - (20%)
A non-UK charity - (20%)
So, please make your four nominations in the thread below. When making your nominations, include the FULL name, not just the initials as there could be more than one charity with those initials. They should not be political, religious or what could be perceived as controversial subjects (such as animal rights, gay groups etc). You don't have to make four so put N/A instead. For example:
International Charity - WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature)
UK Children's Charity - Starlight
UK Non-Children's Charity - Cancer Research UK
Non-UK Charity - N/A
You may also add extra details about your nominated charities, including links to web sites and you can give your reasons for your choices.
The closing date for nominations is Saturday 10th February 2007. No more nominations can be made after this date. The following day, polling will start to choose the winner of each category and will last until Sunday 25th February 2007.

Extra Information on my Nominations

This is one charity that I think is wonderful. It raises money to entertain seriously and terminally ill children.

Hi Owen,
I forgot to mention in my post (although it was in my original draft on my PC), that I do not want any political movements, organisations or other controversial groups (such as certain minority groups - gay groups, animal rights etc) to be nominated. This modelling forum is not the place for such activities and donations could be affected if this forum is seen to be supporting such organisations. It also does not fit in with what I view is the spirit of the Charity Raffle either.
Cuba Solidarity may well be a worthy cause, but I would be grateful if you could withdraw your nomination for Cuba Solidarity and replace it with an "uncontroversial" one instead.

Can you let me know what CAFOD is. I do have an idea but I do not want to get mixed up in case there is more than one!

Ayup Dave...
I know these two don't fulfill your criteria, but these are the ones i would support. Either: Cats protection League (say no more) or Cancer research, ('cos i recovered from it.)

Now that one's a little more serious than cutting your finger with a scalpel... Possibly better off in a different thread, but - What? When? (And tell me to stuff off if you don't want to talk about it).
Cancer is a horrible, rubbish disease - my Dad died of it when I was 12 and it was slow, horrible and painful for all involved.
My nominations:
International Charity - WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature)
UK Children's Charity - No specific preference, so N/A
UK Non-Children's Charity - Cancer Research UK
Non-UK Charity - N/A _________________ Cheers,

Ayup Adrian...
No, I don't have any problems with talking about it . I thank god (and the doctors) that i am here to do so.
When i was 21 - 22, 20 years ago, I had what's called Non- hodgkins T - cell lymphoma, which basically means that your immune system packs up and doesn't work. I had Intensive chemotherapy over 12 weeks, which was horrible, and as then, a little crude. Not like todays, (so I am told), twice as intensely as i should have, but I was 21 and a lot fitter then as now, so the med. staff thought i could cope with it.
That attacked the mutation caused in my lymph nodes and spleen, and 'melted' it out. but it was a little hairy to say the least. every other week I had to go to Hospital and have another treatment which was so 'corrosive', that it was administered under anasthetic and supervision. but i was sorted.
Then, six months after, a tumour appeared in my chest which was (eventually) cut out, After unsuccessful radiotherapy, because the chemo had weakened me somewhat. i then had two years worth of injecting myself with stuff to bolster my immune system, and after that, was declared 'in remission'. that was 20 odd years ago.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Cancer is the most indiscriminate disease and doesn't care about how nice/ nasty a person is. Instead of wasting money on war, it should be spent on combating THIS war. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

I'm with you on that - when I think of all the unpleasantness in the world it still hurts that my dad was taken from me at such an early age - he was only 59 and such a popular man that there was a crowd outside the chapel at his funeral.
Glad to hear that you've been rid of it for so long, though! _________________ Cheers,

My nominations
International Charity - UNICEF
UK Children's Charity - NSPCC
UK Non-Children's Charity - Cancer Research UK
Non-UK Charity - Friends of the Cyprus Donkey
No offence to anyone, but can we also avoid charities with religious connections, as well as the political and rights activists etc.

I agree.
Can any members who have nominated charities with religious connections, please provide alternatives?
