Well, we could merge the two as there are DH Civils... _________________ What about all the times I didn't wear a tutu to school? No one ever brings that up! |

The Airliners GB is due to start on the 1st May, but other than that we have no other Civil Aircraft builds lined up.
I don't foresee there being anywhere near as many Civil builds as Military, as there are many fewer possible subjects, but does anyone have any ideas for the next one? _________________ Cheers,

It might be better to have group builds of specific civil aircraft such as a Concorde GB (1/72 for the brave and 1/144 for the less so) or a Trident GB to spread them out. Or you could have themed builds such as Boeing aircraft or Civil aircraft used in a military role - such as the VC-10 as a tanker. Most of the Airfix airliners served in military roles, some will need converting and new decals. I have an Airfix Magazine Annual article that details how to do these conversions.
The problem is that virtually every Airfix aircraft kit (apart from airliners) in the current catalogue are military with no civilian equivalents so we may have to look at kits no longer in production.

I was also wondering whether we could go for military aircraft used in a civilian role, or is that cheating?
Maybe we could start compiling a list of possible subjects, so that we can identify the less obvious ones? _________________ Cheers,

You could do something simple like the Tiger Moth and paint that in civil colours. I did this one with a made up reg.

The Anson was used quite extensively after the second world war by various charter and survey companies, both in the UK and abroad. Some quite interesting paint schemes as well! The Anson truly is an aircraft for all seasons!

Rich, wondering how many GB's I can get the Anson into! _________________ Best

| I noticed that with all the different aircarft being mentioned, no one has said the DC3/C47 which was very widely used. |

We've enjoyed building the A300 and now the DC-9 is starting to come together as well. So I do wonder how future builds of civil machines could work. Should we all try to build one aircraft type next time? It may be quite good to try to all build the ubiquitous 737, perhaps? It's small and uncomplicated, relatively, but is a bit hard to get hold of. Or should we, in future, allow anyone to build anything as per this group build?
As we've done (or are doing) the latter, it might be fun next time to do the former?

Yes, as Dave mentioned earlier, it might be best to have specific subjects for future builds, as there are so few available.
We've had a few suggestions now, so it might be an idea to set up a poll soon to see what people fancy.
Of course, you know the consequences of suggesting GB subjects don't you Dan ? _________________ Cheers,

Mmm, yes, sadly I do...
As I have one 737 in the stash (that will be completed as an Orion Airways example) and have decals for a second one coming (Aloha Air, that I'll need to get hold of a kit for) it's one subject I could happily model - and Paula and I did one before, not long ago so I'm quite familiar with its pitfalls!
But being Airbus, I should be shot for suggesting a Boeing, shouldn't I?!

Soooo who fancies a civil aircraft GB? I've had a couple of suggestions for a future GB, so if anyone else would like to add more, either for theme builds or specific kit builds please do so. I will then set up the necessary poll.
Suggestions so far;
Turboprop GB, any aircraft with a turboprop engine will be allowed (including military aircraft). Dan to be GB leader .
DH Rapide GB. Sarge had so much fun with the last one he wants to do it all again, but as GB leader this time. (Cheeky Fokker! Just edited it back )
Lets have those ideas....

I'd still be up for a turboprop GB and yes, I'd lead it, provided it's after the Fokker F-27 has been reissued

I was thinking along the lines of the Fokker re-release, as there doesn't seem to be much interest in anything else in the meantime. I wonder if I can find some Golden Knights decals for it?

Not much creativity going on here, is there?
Well the only other things I could suggest would be a 1/144 scale build or a 1/72 scale build... but someone else should have the hopportunity to lead these, dontcha think?
I suppose it is time for a theme build rather than a single type as we did the 737 before?
BTW - anybody seen the civil GB guru round here recently?

Not really my field at all, but here are a couple of ideas that spring readily to mind:
"Old Soldiers Never Die GB" - Retired military aircraft in a civil role, opens up quite a few options for subjects.
"Trailblazers Of Aviation" - Aircraft that made their mark in the history books, from Kittyhawk to the Space-Shuttle.
Just some thoughts, all the best

It's interesting to see that in the current poll the overwhelming majority of members are going for a build of any civil aircraft. It's nice to see a good level of enthusiasm. As the poll stands right now there are a total of 11 members who are "for" a civil build of some kind and only 2 who are "against".
I think, if y'all agree, if it does end up as a build of any civil aircraft, then next time round I'll limit the choice to either a theme or a single subject - or nothing at all, of course. That way we should ensure some sort of rotation of subject matter. What do you all think fo this idea
I'd quite like to keep going with a couple of civil builds each year - it seems to be the right amount and hopefully won't exhaust the supply of Airfix civil aircraft. Does that seem reasonable
Once we've settled on a subject and a date for this upcoming build I'll start canvassing for some ideas so that we could have a feel for the subjects for the first 2010 build.
