No, not talking to myself but making an update. Looking at the 2007 catalogue, I see that Canberra (the floaty one) and QE2 are both making a comeback (quite right too! ).

It seems that the full list of aircraft listed earlier in the thread is slightly fuller with the inclusion of the Vulcan and Chinook.

I should explain that the catalogue contains a double-page spread entitled "Falklands War Anniversary" and it says that "A number of Airfix models are available to commemorate this conflict. Both sets with paint etc and classic kits will be available during 2007". It then shows pictures of Sea Harrier, Puma, Gazelle, Vulcan, Chinook, HMS Leander, HMS Fearless, Canberra, Scorpion Tank, HMS Devonshire (sic), QE2 and HMS Amazon. Super Etendard, Pucara and Mirage/Dagger are not shown, probably due to time constraints in getting the catalogue printed. I wonder why a Hercules, Scout, VC-10 and an A-4 Skyhawk weren't included?

Dave

[Edited to include extra aircraft names]

I have set up a forum for a Falklands War 25th Anniversary Group Build here so we can get chatting about our builds. The Group Build will take place from 14th June 2007* until 14th September 2007 (a three-month build instead of the normal two).

*14th June 2007 is the 25th anniversary of the surrender of Argentinian forces on the Falkland Islands.

How about 'The Spanish Civil War' as the focus for a 'Special GB'?

This could certainly include aircraft, armoured vehicles and figures, maybe boats & ships too.....Not really my department that though!

Just a thought, all the best

We've had the possibility of campaign GB's mentioned in the aircraft area. I think a combined forces theatre or campaign GB is a good idea, several have been mentioned including SEAC, Spanish Civil War, Eatern Front, North Africa.

I think it would be nice to do at least one each year. At the moment I want to get the Op Sealion JB going as that has been languishing for a while. Tthere's the possibility of doing a fun special build for the charity fundraising this year which may slot in after the JB.

I admit I don't often do GB's -I'm usually too busy with other projects, however I'm enjoying the currant 'Rotors' build.

I've been thinking of a couple of possible future ones, they are;

Airfix 2008 Re-release GB.

This could be any of the original Airfix tooling of the re-releases due out this year. As a reminder they are...

Gladiator
Defiant
Bird Dog
Devestator
Buffalo
Henschel 123
Alpha Jet
Strikemaster
B25 Mitchel
Dornier 17E/F
Mirage F.1
Boston
Eurofighter
HMS Victorious
Endeavour
1804 Loco
Beam Engine

Most apart from the last four are quite easily obtainable at a reasonable price. It might be an interesting one to do.

The other idea is,

Aircraft Manufacturers GB

This could be a selection of Airfix kits from a given manufacturer, such as;

De Havilland -which includes,
Tiger Moth
Comet Racer
Rapide
Mosquito
Heron
Vampire
Chipmonk
Beaver
Comet 4

Dominie
Trident
(Both De Havilland designs)

Other manufacturers that Airfix have kitted a number of could include

Hawker, Hawker/Siddeley -including the Harriers
BAC
Messerschmitt
Douglas

These are just ideas. Would anyone be interested later in the year?

I guess the former would come under Rich's remit as 'Specials Guru', but for the second (my bit), it's an idea.  I'll add it to the (already huge!) list of suggestions so far.

The manufacturers build certainly has potential, we would get a good few builds out of that.

The 2008 build would make an interesting gallery particularly if we could get each kit built with a few variants where applicable. It would also be useful for the History of Airfix section.

Cheers

Two admins and a mod and we still can't get the post in the right forum , moved as if by magic .

I think the Manufacturer GB is a good idea, for example Avro have quite a few examples in the catalogue - it means I can build the Anson.

We could also have  sunset GB for those toolings which have been retired e.g J*EJ (this has been suggested before in the dim and distant past).

I have merged this thread with the "Future GB's - Specials" thread. An aircraft manufacturer GB which involves both civil and military aircraft will be a "Special", same as the proposed "Re-releases" GB.

I'm going to suggest we have an annual "Campaign" GB, similar to the Falkland's GB. This will be an all services and civvie open GB, Air, Sea, Land, Space, figure etc (Airfix kits only). I'll accept nominations from members during the next week or two, then run a poll to choose the subject, I will then run a second poll to determine when the GB will be run.

My suggestions.
Vietnam War (US).
North Africa WW2.
Suez.
Gulf War I.

Over to you....

Over in the Military Aircraft future builds thread, Sgt Squarehead suggested the Spanish Civil War.

I suggested it here too.....It's on the previous page.

I thought the Spanish Civil War would make a good standard 'Military Aircraft GB' because Airfix make a reasonable number of useable kits.....If we add vehicles and such into the equation it will need to be a 'Special' simply because Airfix ain't too big on Pz Is or T-26s!

North Africa is cool (and a very good subject for Airfix builds), but I also like the less well known East Africa campaign too.....Hawker Furies and The Ethiopian Camel Corps in combat, the Italian M11/39 being the biggest tank on the block, Hailie Selassie and Orde Wingate fighting behind the lines, not to mention the involvement of 1st Battalion The Worcesters.....What's not to like about it!

For what it's worth & all the best

There's been quite a few suggestions over time, but I'd like to do a fresh collection just so we're current and it gives new folks the chance to input.
Thanks
