A little more has been done.

The 'varnished' wood effect was done by painting the areas with H110 Natual wood then over painting it with H1322 Clear Orange, I was quite pleased with the result. Other wood bits such as the handrails, hull bumpstrips and hatches were done with H110 on it's own.

Almost all what has been painted so far will need a further coat.

'Warning, Men putting up Umbrellas!'

Looks smashing Brian, the wood effect is spot on and looks a treat

A bit more has been done.

I changed the colour of the safety rail poles from 'wood' to white and added invisible mending thread safety wires.

A small ring of brass color was put around the portholes then filled with 'Krystal Klear'. I also filled the cabin roof windows with it too.

Also a few more bits and pieces have been added and painted.

Very nice technique on the wood.

Looking forward to seeing the finished job.

Cheers

Rear decoration done.

I had to use a jewellers eye piece to really see the detail for painting. I also had to add a strip of paper to continue the wood molding below the hand rail as it wasn't included.

Very detailed How did you keep your hand and the kit so steady to do such fine work? And what size brush were you using!

Hi Owen, it did indeed take a steady hand -I even stopped breathing a few times so I didn't shake.

I used a '00000' size brush which is about 1/4 mm wide.

Cheers.

Here's the next episode.

I was going to build this more or less out of box, but as I added safety wires to the railings on the rear upper deck I thought I'd add the railings all the way round the rear. It just didn't look right without them.

I used a pair of dividers to mark locations for the poles and then part drilled them. I then cut lengths of plastic rod and connected them with invisible mending thread, then a coat of white paint.

I'll do the same thing with the safety railings at the front too.

A bit more has been done. Mainly the deck equipment, front railings and spare masts.
It'll soon be time to start the masts and rigging!

I've made a start on the rigging, surprisingly the rigging machine you get in the kit is easy to use and does quite good results. The only downside is you waste tons of thread for the little bit you actually need.
I'll show pictures of the tool and how I used it later.

Behind the lower ratlines are four guide ropes,(only one shown in picture) three times I've tried to do them with thread and it still looks rubbish -far too floppy!! So, instead I shall use stretched sprue for the 'taught' ropes.

Well Done Brian!

The Sark is look fantastic already, very high class work.

I'll be interested to see what this 'Rigging Machine' is like. Sounds like its a bit of a pain in the rear passage!
