Hmmm - this thread has completely stagnated, sadly. So this weekend I'll have a bit of a sift and maybe have a crack at something. How about this ugly little spud?
Surely rotorcraft don't get much more ugly, do they?
What d'yall think?
Who else is in with an ugly little spud?
George, how's your MB.200? Adrian, what about your Pogo?

I'm afraid that the Pogo is currently hiding behind one of my hi-fi speakers, forlorn and unloved.
I got totally bogged down with the silver paint scheme - tried Hu11 which looked grotty, then tried Rub'n Buff which looked okay but showed up every little bump and scratch. I started a process of polishing with ever diminishing grades of sanding stick, but lost the will to live _________________ Cheers,

I hit the wall again , with my previous mentioned 1/72 Mach 2: Leduc 021.
I’m halfway through skinning it with metal tape, a little on the heavy side but not that bad on this model.
I still haven’t figured out how to make a new transparent nose cone, the one supplied is not clear enough and rather thick with a crack in it.
I promise I’ll post a picture when I have a little more progress.
Nice helicopter, Dan.
I don’t think it’s that ugly.

Well I'm gonna do this and hpe that someone or other will join me...
Here are the destructions:
Not a machine I know a darn thing about, quite frankly, so this is going to be a hoot... I need to do some research! That's not really me, I have to admit.
The sprues - moulded in white plastic with loads of flash and clunky components, it's not a lot different to the HUP that I did before Christmas. I'm not really shocked at the quality given that it's a low volume, short-run kit. To the right are the pods for the stretchers:
And finally the decals - hmmm. Grump! It should have two sheets of decals - one common to all AModel Ka-15s and one specific for this ambulance version. It only has the one for the latter.
So far I've splattered some H27 across the innards but will try to post regular updates.
Who else is going to be man (or woman!) enough to join me?!

Hmmmm, interesting... I happen to have a full set of Citadel colours, donated by someone at work. Never really considered using their metallics, I just use them for the flesh colours and weathering. _________________ Cheers,

it's on hold for a it until I can do all that canopy framing justice! At the moment I'm really, really bad at it & I want to do a good job on that kit as I really like it.
I'll do something different in the meantime though _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

I've started the painting of a few of the bits and pieces for the Kamov. Up to now it's all cockpit stuff plus the rotor blades, all basically in H27 with the fire extinguisher and med kit picked out in Revell 31 red and the top of one of the panels and the seat centres picked out in H165.

Painting canopy framing is not that hard to do if you use acrylic paint.
Angle your model to the best and most comfortable position, and rest your wrist on something to gain steadiness in your hand.
Paint it as good as you can with a pointy brush, holding it at an angle of about 45 degrees or lower to ease painting the raised frames.
Have a damp cotton swab ready if you need to remove some of the paint here and now.
Don’t worry if you get a little paint on the clear panels.
Let it dry for 5-10 minutes, and scrape the excess off with a sharp wooden toothpick. Sharpen it if necessary.
This way you can get clean, straight, crisp framings and that without much work.
It works for me. I know my canopies are not always that good, but that is more due to my laziness, not the method.
Have fun!

Well I've largely got the cockpit together. Just needs a bit of touching up...

Cockpit and fuselage are now as one and the fuselage joined up. Trouble is, the cockpit's an awful fit in this kit and forces the fuselage halve apart, so a lot of work was needed to get it to fit - evan as poorly as this!

It’s interesting to follow your progress, Dan.
Is it normal for an Amodel kit to be that tricky?
I have many times been tempted to buy one of their models, because some of them is quite interesting
like your KA-15M but I always stand back in the end, because of the mixed reviews they get.
I’m normally not that keen with short-run kits. I have started a few (Mach2 and Pegasus) but never finished one yet.
At the moment I’m building on a MiG 9 from Skarabey witch I actually enjoy,
despite some rather tricky fillings around a plug-in in the fuselage and (nearly) enough flash to build a whole model from.
Do you have any advice regarding Amodel?

Ah! Skarabey MiG-9 - just like this one that I built a couple ofyears ago, Jesper?
AModel are nowhere near as bad as Mach2 or Skarabey and they vary, in my experience, model by model. I've only completed one of their other models, the Piasecki HUP, and it is of similar quality to this one. We are also building, as you know, their Antonov An-22 which also has... ...hmm, let's call them "issues" with fit. But equally we have their Tu-128 Fiddler and it looks like a nice kit that doesn't seem to have anything like the problem of their helicopter range.
If you're happy enough building that awful Skarabey MiG, then AModel kits are a breeze - just have plenty of sandpaper and sanding sticks to hand to deal with the flash (and there's the problem with this kit - the flash is so thick around the cockpit parts that it's hard to see where the component starts and the flash ends.....)
Give one a go, mate - really, they're good fun when you're in the mood for a challenge. If you're already having a bad day, then just don't touch it!

Jesper, as Dan says they require a bit of work but nothing beyond your level of skill as your completed kits show.
Be prepared for a lot of filling and sanding but the basic parts are right and you are not going to get many of these aircraft anywhere else. The decals seem to be satisfactory if you take care while applying them (but then that follows for most decals).
See the Yak 28 in the Non Airfix gallery.
Would suggest that you don`t start with a helicopter. _________________ Roger. |

Not quite like yours Dan.
Mine is the MiG-9 production single-seat version. A more handsome airplane in my view.
I’m taking a few pictures wile I built, so when I’m done I’ll make a post in the demo build section.
By the way, it cost me £3.99 in 1999 a fair price I think. That is £10 less than my Leduc 021!
I think I will try Amodel if I see a subject I fancy, actually I like filling and sanding.
