We need some more 1/72 scale Boats/Ships, the life boat was great.
How about a 1/72 scale Leander or Oberon
or some of the larger WW2 landing craft or even mine sweepers.
Cheers Steve |

In light of the new and very impressive Revell 1/144 Fletcher-class DD, is there anyone besides me who would be up for an Airfix 1/144 Tribal-class destroyer? _________________ Dr Russ |

i'm with steve re a ton class sweeper / hunter in , 1/72 , after all there where over 200 built and they served in every part of the world and where used by many navies . if thats not enough they where the last of the navy's wooden hulled ships .
what i could never understand is the lack of any of Nelson's frigates in a large scale . that was probably the only time that Britain ruled the seas .
scale wise please no smaller tan 1/600 they just seem to small .
cheers john |

I'd like a Santissima Trinidad scaled to match the 1/168 Victory.
Or a 1/600 Littorio with this colour scheme. What's not to like? _________________ circumveniat quod circumiret

First, I have to agree with DJBlackburn about KMS 'Scharnhorst' I bought one years ago and it was a beautiful kit to make. However I do disagree abouit the bow profile. The original had a "straight stem" with a slight bulbous forefoot. Later she was given what the Kriegsmarine called an "Atlantic Bow" and, in my opinion ruined her profile. We call it a "Clipper Bow". The difference is simple. One is straight and the other is curved. Why the OKM decided to refit all their ships [apart from the Pocket Battleships] with Atlantic bows I know not. They admit that they did little to stop shipping seas over the bows.
But now to my real point. I like the new 400 th. scale and have just started the "Scharnhorst" despite my disappointment at her having the later bow. I am awaiting the KMS "Bismark"/"Tirpitz".I intend to converet both to R/C My wishlist consists of one ship only. Continuing in the same vein why not a 400 "Graf Spee"/"Admiral Scheer"?
This is a class that appears to have been sadly neglected, yet, next to "Bismark" the "Graf Spee' [b]must[/b be the most famous KMS vessel from WWII Thank Neptune the OKM did not fit them wirh Atlantic Bows.
Cheers

I would really, really like a 1/72 I-400 class submarine.....With full interior detail and crew figures!
I'd probably need to dig a swimming pool to keep it in though!
All the best

If Airfix wish to be a serious contender in the model ships market, they really ought to be looking at subjects not already covered by other brands.
There was - an opportunity to create and market a couple of WW2 Kriegsmarine ships - until Academy and Trumpeter announced releases of these previously ignored subjects.
Now, we can look forward to releases of both the K.M. Prinz Eugen & Panzerschiffe Graf Spee in 1/350 scale.
Also, Academy have announced their own Graf Spee in the same scale.
People are fed up with yet another Bismarck/ Tirpitz/ Missouri etc.
But look at the opportunities.
Airfix used to be brilliant at doing kits of subjects untouched by other manufactures.
So I thin k there's still room for a 1/350 Leander Class HMS Ajax for example. Yes there are resin versions, but none in plastic.
The ship is quite simple in construction. There are ample references, and the mould size and complexity are relatively cheap - in comparison to the likes of their recently announced modern-day HMS Illustrious kit.
It is the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate this year.
Airfix could have trounced the opposition by releasing a 1/350 Leander class cruiser to compliment the Graf Spee kits already announced by other brands.
And that is without looking at other subjects.
Think about a few of the other smaller RN assets which took part in the Battle of the Denmark Strait for example.
Sheffield, Suffolk, a Tribal Class destroyer......
And that's before we begin to look at previously-ignored subjects of capital ships.
Ark Royal? Victorious?
Plenty still to go at in 1/350.
So come on Airfix - regain some o9f that unique style you once had.
Who else in the 50's & 60's had the bottle to offer us 1/600 examples of non-mainstream subjects?
Time to regain the momentum, but this time go all out for 1/350.
It's all still to play for...... |

Please Airfix, let's not go down the 1/350 route
I certainly won't be buying any ships in this monstrous scale _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I'd happily buy a 2 in 1 kit of the Mary Rose (as she was and as she is now) in 1/72. then to go with it there would have to be a kit of HMS Warrior which along with HMS Victory, Airfix could do a 'Portsmouth Historic ships' collection boxing.
Along the same lines lets see a kit of SS Great Britain to go with the SS Great Western that Airfix already have in their stable.
<Thinks> A large scale - 1/350 up, of the Great Eastern (to the same scale as GB and GW just to show how massive she was)would be nice as well so we could have a I K Brunel box set. |

If Airfix did HMS Warrior in 1/72, I'd buy it in an instant.....So long as it wasn't a Scalextrix ship dressed up as a kit!
All the best

Revell have a 1/388 Great Eastern, it was re-released quite recently - there was one in my LMS.

I'm with Ratch. 1/350 is too big. I won't be buying the new 1/350 HMS Illustrious for that very reason. More 1/600 ships I say! :-) _________________ If you would like Airfix to release a 1/600 kit of HMS Dreadnought,

Ayup All...
I should like a Hermes to go with Illustrious. Same Scale.
I think for non dedicated floaty builders with an eye for just ONE in the stash or collection this would be a good Model. Also for those who are interested in the Falklands Campaign... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

That's the point Stu you won't get lots of sales over the whole range or repeat purchases I have most of the 1/600 range and am working on getting repeats of each subject _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here
