Been trying to spray the Hu130 satin white on over the last few days. Had a pretty torrid time, I was using the large 120ml tin - horrible, very granular and kept blocking the airbrush.

Here's two coats on, I found a small 14ml tinlet which I will be using for a final 3rd coat which will hopefully sort the problem.

Bug head! (Spot the rogue rivets!).

Finally got a decent coat of Hu130 on, I've masked this ready for the application of Metalcote 27001 polished aluminium.

Ooooooh!!!! Shiny!

First coat of 27001 aluminium is on. I'll overcoat this with a layer of Gloss Cote before putting a second layer on.

Loving it!
Rivets are cool,  BTW, it's a classic Airfix kit after all!
Can't wait to see this finished.

Got two coats of 27001 on with gloss in between. Overcoated with gloss and took the masking off.

A bit off seepage here and there. I've put another gloss cote on to allow for decaling, I'll tidy up the paint and put the black anti-glare panel on. I'm in two minds wether to apply some exhaust staining - it looks so nice and shiny!

Looks very good indeed.

Regarding the exhaust stains.  I belong to the school of thought that plastic models should mimic the real thing in every way.  They should start out pristine and spotless, and then, over time, naturally acquire a coat of dust, pet saliva, popcorn grease, cigar smoke and laser printer toner until they resemble a truly "war weary" bird.

Ah yes, I believe I have.  Was it the pet saliva or toner that gave it away?

Applied all the decals, they're under microsol overnight, ready for a final coat of gloss. In the meantime I'm finishing the paint touch ups and I've drilled out the exhausts. I've also stuck a couple of mounts for the rotors on top of the engines, this will make the blades removable. Painting the rotors and wheels - all the usual last minute faffing!

I think it looks quite handsome in this paint scheme now it's got the markings on.

Wow, that looks like the real thing now.  I remember them and the Rotadyne when they were 'flavour of the day'.  But then, I am old enough.  Nice build.

Anybody want a pot of Maskol, free! Last time I use the dratted stuff, completely ruined my paintwork on the cockpit canopy . I'll have to strip all the remaining paint off and start again - with tamiya tape this time .

Spent a while chipping the remaining paint off with a cocktail stick. Remasked with Tamiya tape and I'm in the process of painting it - white first.

If it wasn't for the black anti-glare panel I'd be inclined to just corgi out the windows as all that interior dust looks horrible.

It looks like one of those shake-it and see the snow settle ornaments ......

Have you tried carefully removing the canopy ?

I have considered it, but the canopy is really on good. The only way to get it off would be to razor saw the whole thing just forward of the bulkhead. The saws I have are designed to be mounted on a scalpel blade and are far too flexible. I'm trying to find a longer rigid razor saw (zactoman?), in which case I'll give it a go, but probably not in the time frame of the GB.

I wonder if you couldn't move the dust by flooding the whole model with slightly soapy water?   Think

Or perhaps you could drill a hole and blow the dust out with your compressor, drastic I know, but not quite as drastic as sawing the nose off!

Just a thought, all the best

Soapy water will leave a residue ( always rinse your washing up folks )  BUT  diluted windcreen wash might work best and will dry quicker too.

Thought I'd try flushing out the cockpit, so I removed one of the mirros and drilled a hole . I flooded it with an ethanol/water mix with a syringe and shook it around really hard.

Then I removed the liquid and repeated the process. Results are a bit disappointing, not a lot of difference, the dust really seems to be attached, probably as it's origin is filler .

Anyhow I'm going to finish the build, I can always resort to the saw later!
