I'll be doing AW665 in the PP-B scheme of the RAAF No 71 Sqn.
I've ordered the replacement Falcon canopy set from Hannants, which should arrive in the next week. In the meantime I'll make a start on the wings and flaps, which I intend to drop.

Made a start on the wings of the Anson, I painted the wheel wells with two coats of Hu78 interior green. Once this was dry I masked the aperture with tamiya tape to protect it during the build.
I then cut out the flaps which I intend to model dropped. I then glued the wings together. Once dry I reduced the wing rib detail by filing and sanding, leaving the rivet detail around the wing fuel tanks.
After (L) and before (R).
I removed the seam on the cowlings and sanded them smooth. I then temporarily fixed the cowlings in place to drill out the various openings and to fix the position of the exhaust. I glued a piece of plastic card in place at the base of the flaps to cover the gap there and then filled with tippex.
The exhuast is made of plastic card, it is not yet fixed in place but will be removed to be cut and bent to the correct shape before being drilled out and painted. It will then be added at the end of the build. The holes for the oil cooler have been filled as they don't provide a good fit anyway.
Internally I think I will end up using the kit transparencies. I have glued a shim of plastic on the interior of the lower window ledge to hold the window in place so the external surface fits flush with the fuselage. I have sanded the window exterior to remove the molded framing.

Started work on the interior. I decided to fashion the side walls and framing from plastic card, rather than a two piece plastic card/plastic rod hybrid. Bit of an experiment to see how it turns out.
I've epoxied the windows in place having first sanded off all exterior detail and sanded smooth, final polishing will take place prior to priming.
I've cemented in the pilot floor and added the bracing (old sprue) for the cabin floor which will be made from plastic card.
This is a shot of the wall and framing in place for fitting. There is some wiring and bits and bobs as well as the framing on the wall section to be added, which all has to be painted before being glued in place. Next step after the floors is scratchbuilding the seats and radio equipment.

Re-inforced the epoxy seal on the windows, will let this cure for a day or two before painting.
Finished the building of the side wall panels, once the floor has been cut and fitted and I'm happy with the fit of the walls I'll start painting them.
Next time I'll have a plastic card wall and use round plastic rod to form all the framing, just looks better I think.

Progress has been somewhat slow. Altered the seats with some plastic card, for the naviagators position I decided to use a Aeroclub seat (extreme left) just to test it out. Made the floor and rear bulkhead (still in need of trimming) out of plasticard.
Painted the framing Hu78 interior green ready for painting the instruments and wiring black and doing some washes and dry brushing.

Still sorting out the interior. Did some more painting on the side panels and finished the seats - just got to add decal harnesses.
Working on the radio console and framing, once this is done I can glue the floor in place and then add the side panels.

Did some more fabricating, this time the cockpit console. Some of the plastic rod is a bit too big, but I didn't have anything better.
I'll paint it up and use the supplied decal (chopped down) for the instruments.

Nice stuff!
I am hoping to get an Anson in the mail today. I will post pics if I can get results as good as those in the current GB. |

The ironic thing about all this faffing to create an interior, is that all this work gets you to the level which is included in the Special Hobby Anson as standard!
Managed to get the side panels and main floor in. The radio apparatus is already attached to the floor.
The cockpit floor is attached to the other side due to the presence of the wing spar.
At least all this epoxy and additional panels should hold the side windows in place.
I completed the seat modifications. Next time I'll use a different colour brown for the harnesses than the one I used for the cushions. Can't really see them too well. The harnesses are cut from painted clear decal paper.

Lovely work there Rich.
Admire the effort, the Special Hobby issue has a lot of detail but it is also 4 times the price! The difference buys a lot of card and micro strip. |
