It's out of the box, and sitting on my modelling table.  I hadn't realised how many pieces it had, nor how big it was!  Also had a certain amount of trouble locating the VE-day collection instructions, but I've found them now.

Might be able to get started on it this evening.

I'm going to try to be good this year, and complete any group builds I sign up to... I've already got a bad feeling about this one Sofa

Oh, most definitely OOB - my basic shipbuilding skills are bad enough, without adding teeny-weeny little bits of brass!

And I'm off!

I joined the hull on Friday night - I didn't experience any problems with fit at all, so all it needed was a little sanding to hide the seam.  The rear deck is on, first little seaplane assembled and I've started popping the various bits and bobs onto the deck.  I'm afraid I'm not going to get any more technical than that, as I have no idea what any of the pieces are...

Pictures to follow.

Here's the shots of the hull constructed - as you can see, no obvious gaps to fill.

More progress was made last night, adding more... bits and bobs!  I've revised my opinion voiced in the chat thread about assembling it all and then painting, as this kit seems to have lots of visible "insides".  As such, I've also started painting the various bits of deck that you might be able to see but not get to once it's all together.

Continued assembly and painting last night - loads of little lifeboats stuck to their mounts! I've also come across the same problems as chippy with the poor fit of the various superstructure parts.

Anyone else having trouble with their 'Oak' paint?  Mine is so thin it's like water and coverage is appalling - going to need dozens of coats by the looks of it.

Hi Adrian, glad Im not alone re fit.  Ive decided to use a Tamiya colour for my deck's, its acrylic so needs to be done after all the enamel painting but the look is good, I tried it on my Hood (in gallery) and was pleased by the results.

Shame about the superstructure fit though, because I found that the hull was perfect.

Anyway, plodding on at my own sedate pace.  Here are some progress pics of the hull/decks and various others sub-assemblies.

Likewise the hull went together great, as I said in the chat  section an earlier moulding is very crisp and clean, I suppose you could put it down to wear and tear on the moulds, filler is great though, i cant believe how easy it is to use.

More sub-assemblies are together, and I've started doing more painting - first coat on the hull.

Having real trouble with thin paint - the RAF blue used for various bits of deck and hangar is very thin, no matter how much I stir it!

Plodding along - various second coats of paint on, and a little filling here and there.

Carrying on with various bits of painting, filling, sanding - nothing really worthy of pics.  I've also masked off the Hu70 on the hull and started painting the other colours - Hu64 first.
