Sort of - I located the two copies of the kit in my stash this evening!
I can't live with having 4 kits on the go so I'm going to finish the amphibious and heavy bomber GBs first! (HMS Hotspur can remain packed away a bit longer).
The Buffalo is getting there.

OK, I lied. I've started HMS Belfast before finishing the Heavy Bomber GB. The latter is at the serious painting stage and watching paint dry isn't too compelling a way to spend a Sunday!
So here's the raw material:
Type 6 box? Therefore a generation or so old. Colour call outs for Airfix paint. I compared the plastic to the sprues in the recent D Day box set and couldn't see too much difference other than a little more flash on the younger kit. I'm going to build the older kit but I have a suspicion that some parts might be missing (bought off Ebay as a job lot with various other ship kits) so the newer one is there for spares. Also present: WEM PE.
And here's the start:
Made a start on tacking the hull halves together and have removed the plastic catapult.

Slowly! The hull halves are together (a forced marriage ) and the seam has been filled, now awaiting sanding.
And that's it. Yesterday's spare time in the workshop was spent on the Grief but mostly on clearing it out and rearranging it to accept a now superfluous sideboard from the living room. More workspace!
Any good refs for Belfast colour schemes? I don't fancy the lurid camo much. What colour was she when she went off to the far east towards the end of the war?

Hi Digs
Pretty straight forward colour scheme really, consisting of AP507C (light grey) with a band of AP507A (Dark Grey) which basically covered the armour belt. there is a good image of this on the centre colour spread in Warship Profile, should be in the ref section it is only in the thumbnails bit in the middle. I have found that doing a google image search turned up some great photos. Hope this helps. |

Thanks Chippy & Ratch - I've splashed out on a couple of reference books - the Anatomy & Profile ones. Having read half of the Profile, I think I'll have to go for the multicolour swap shop outfit. The late war paint profile (or the early for that matter) would mean too much hacking around of the secondary armaments for me to contemplate. That or just ignoring any sense of accuracy and having spent hard earned zlotys on the books that seems a little silly.
Progress - not much to report. The hull halves are together, filled & sanded. Next step: propellor shafts. Sadly, an ill advised approach to cutting the shaft brackets off the sprues lead to all four ( ) breaking in half.
I'm concentrating on finishing the heavy bomber build first!

Chippy - very kind thanks, but if I can't repair the ones I broke then I'll dip into the spare Belfast kit I have.
Cheers
Paul
P.S. - just noticed the Forum has on the fly censorship! Colloquial use of the term for where redundant horses used to go was instantly changed to "worn out". The marvels of technology eh? (Oh, and I edited out the offending word as I didn't wear the shaft brackets out, I... "worn out" them if you see what I mean ) |

Err, not directly I'm afraid. What there was in the way of weekend modelling time was taken up with photographing the He177.
Still, on the Belfast front, I've read around a bit more and decided that I'll have to bite the bullet and go for the camouflage finish - too much work to modify the kit into the plainer pre or late war finishes.
I will get there in the end though!

Well, the build is moving again. Yesterday I put down a base coat of Hu64 on the hull (& sprues), then the red oxide antifoul, followed by satin oak (Hu71) on the wooden decks.
Is there a worse paint for covering than Hu71??
Now waiting for stuff to dry hard before proceeding with the hull camouflage.

More progress - it's actually starting to look like something has been achieved... well, within my remit anyway!
Hull fully painted, main decks too, and glued in place. Work now starting on the superstructure.
Photos to follow tomorrow with luck.
