Ah but I have my new glasses, so at least I should be able to see the small bits - I hope!!!!
Going to start with the catapult and cranes and work down to the more fidly bits, also going to attach anchor cable and anchors as well as the vertical ladders, cant decide what colour to paint them.  Experience teaches me that they were probably galvanised so do I go for a gun metal or just light grey colour, I know that I want them to stand out so could go for black, will ponder it a bit.

Galvanising is only effective for around 10 years in normal environments. It should always be painted for weather protection. Where salt water is likely it would need regular repainting, just like the rest of a ship. So a painted finish is more likely, or rust even !

You are quite right Loll, so AP507C (light grey it is)  might try a bit of bare metal on the rung bits as paint is usually worn off there at least it was on my ships with the handrails painted. worth a try at least and might be something else to home in on. (I think I am taking this far too seriously). But it is very addictive.

Well did a bit more of the PE last night fitted the Bridge blast roof then got stuck identifying the bits to go on the main director, the instructions are a bit unclear I may have to give Carolyn at WEM an email to try and find out a bit more.

Well decided to go for it and made up the aft fire control director, very fidly, found that it was ok forming it around a piece of 1/16th steel and attaching the mount to it like that.  Also made up the RADAR mounting, this stuff is very fine and will I think take quite a while to build up.

I bet those Sherman lightguards don't look so scary now, eh Ratch?

Amazing brasswork chippy.....I've done a bit myself recently, so I can fully appreciate how tricky that must have been!

All the best

Cheers guys, it was a bit fidly, only had to search the carpet once and found it, new glasses are brilliant LOL.

So far these have been the easy bits, will see how I get on with the masts (Ratch has just gone into (PTSD) at the mention).  It does show you why it is probably better to just do a couple of small bits a day, instead of trying to do loads.  The concentration alone is a pain.  Im also moving in a desk lamp as good light is essential. More later I hope.  Will try and post a pick of the forming around the steel cabinet scrapper to give you all the right idea.

Well spent over an hour on one of the Pom Pom's over the last two days. My fine tweezers arent fine enough.  Have had a thought though and will try a different assembly method on the next one. Other than that just stuck a few more bits on and touched up some paint.

Well have been playing with more PE and must admit the changed method of making up the Pom Pom worked a treat
1)bend the front of mount to 90 degrees and super glue to base
2)Glue the actual mounts in place on both sides remembering to make sure that when the unnattached side is bent through into shape that the detail faces upwards.
3)when all are dry bend into shape using tweezers and glue to base
4) Fix the railings and paint

worked a treat.

Have also fitted a few ladders before building up the superstructure just because it will be easier then trying to do same when everything is glued in place, also fitted the aft life raft stowages, pictures to follow

A bit more done last night on the AA weapons and supports for the 4" gun sponsons, all painted and ready for assembly, its great that you get extra weapons on the fret they will come in handy for future builds.

Need to seriously get stuck into the catapult as I cant build up the shelter deck until that is in place.  Good thing is that most of the other small bits are ready painted and just waiting to go on, beginning to see real progress just over the horizon.

Thanke everyone for your nice comments, its appreciated.

Did the barrells for the twin 20 mm Oerlikons last night and boy were they fidly, a bit unsure about what the instructions meant so ended up bending around a steel rule, looks ok though and does transform the gun, decided to paint the barrels black makes them look more interesting, pics to follow.

Here are a few pics of recent progress, more work on the Bridge area, 20mm Oerlikons and semaphore are in place as well as some more railings, have also assembled the lower part of the fore mast.Other pics show work to the aft superstructure including fitting of the liferaft stowages and the remainder of the 20 mm Oerlikons with their shelter on the quarterdeck as well as the quick release petrol stowage right at the stern as wel as Oerlikon on top of "B" turret, will be going for the catapult later tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks Ratch, thats why I only do a bit at a time and the important thing to remember is that when it goes wrong remember to take what ever it is in the tweezers out before you sling them !!!!!
Did the first part of the catapult this morning and have to agree with you what a waste of detail, have also added a ladder and platform to the front of the fwd funnel, makes it look a bit more interesting

here are a few pics of work progressing on the shelter / boat deck.  Pom-Pom's are fitted with guardrails and the catapult is in place, have just painted it, a pity that most of the excellent detail will be hidden. Boats have also been fitted to the cradles as well as the liferafts, these need to be painted to blend in with the cammo pattern.  Have just fitted the 4" gun sponsons to the main deck and will fit guardrails to the part where the shelter deck goes prior to fitting it as space will make it difficult, will post pics before I do it when they are dry.
